Greg Rucka, is an American comic book writer and novelist, known for his work on such comics as Action Comics, Batwoman: Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC Comics, and for novels such as his Queen & Country series.
'Wonder Woman #7' by Greg Rucka with art by Liam Sharp is just a gorgeous looking comic book. I also like the setting and what happens.
The aftermath of a fight starts the issue and Wonder Woman frees some captives. She and Barbara Ann, aka Cheetah, are now out to find Steve Trevor. Cheetah is just going along with things because Wonder Woman has promised to help free her from her curse. Then the swamp thing looking monster showed up, and that's all I will say.
The story is good. It feels like classic fantasy from Edgar Rice Burroughs. The art is just amazing. It's the best thing I've seen in recent DC comics I've read and even in some of the graphic novels. I love the style. I've been catching issues as I can, but this is a pretty good comic.
I received a review copy of this issue from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this issue.
Every issue of this series is just so amazing. Rucka proves he was the best choice to start the Wonder Woman line of Rebirth, and Liam Sharp is fantastic with his art.
Probably the best issue I've read so far this week! I'm really starting to see the connections between The Lies and Year One arcs (but I still wish they weren't alternating every two weeks). I think this is really the most consistent title from Rebirth (at least the ones up to number 7).
2.5 /5 really . Why? Because I'm Calling Bullsh*t on the story .
I really like that the Big-Green-Swamp-Thing-replica-monster thingy was a powerful entity & was proving to be a big threat all throughout the buildup to the story so far but to get him so easily defeated with lore that were never mentioned before and were frankly very confusing at times .
the plus were obviously the gorgeous art style yet again and the little interaction that Diana and Steve shared giving us a possible hint of a reunion (MAKE IT HAPPEN ALREADY) , Then there was the whole Women are powerful thing that I do believe is the point of Wonder woman comics something that was not done enough in the New 52 .
Overall a very abrupt and easy handling of what was previously made out to be a big baddy and a very confusing ex machina event in the end made this a below average work for me and basically spilled water to a lot of good work that had been done to this point
After meeting up with Steve Trevor's team, Wonder Woman and Cheetah rescue the missing girls and head off to find the Warlord Cadulo. Not only do they need to rescue the remainder of the missing girls, but they have to stop Urzkartaga from taking over Steve's body!
Living up to the story title, a lot of lies and deceptions are revealed this issue as they pertain to Cheetah. Many things about Urzkartaga and his curse haven't been true, and they've forced Cheetah do kill and do a lot of things she would never have done. She'll have to reconcile all of this in the future, and hopefully Wonder Woman will be there to help her through it all.
I'm guessing we'll get to some of the lies surrounding Wonder Woman over the next couple of issues, but I'm curious to see if any of them relate to Steve Trevor, Etta Candy, or ARGUS in general. There may be lies on Olympus, but what about on Earth?
I felt this was a pretty straightforward issue from a story arc standpoint. In fact, Wonder Woman may have defeated Urzkartaga just a bit too easily. Maybe we're not entirely done with him and Cadulo yet.
Sharp's art continues to be a high point in the series from his unique interpretation of Cheetah to the horrifying giant of Urzkartaga. The jungles remain moody and dark, and the entire atmosphere seems almost claustrophobic. Brilliant stuff!
Very solid issue that keeps you engaged and wanting more. Story may be running a touch long, though.
[7a] “'Illeism' … Some consider it a sign of NARCISSISM o even MEGALOMANIA.” - [7b] “She SHOULD be [yours]. She CAN be.” - Cadulo “You've got some TOXIC ideas of MACULINITY, dude.” - Steve
What an ending to an arc. Really delivers on the tension that's been building over the series so far and gives us an intriguing and possibly challenging character shift going forward.
