I don't even know what to do with myself right now! The book was completely brilliant ! You have no idea of all of the plot twists! Serena knows her plan is risky and may have flaws but until her last breath she will fight for Tristan. Zander is a godsend that keeps the mood light and hilarious! I absolutely love his character. While everyone is against the reunion for Tristan and Serena , Zander will go through anything to help them. Freya is so cruel and manipulative ! She's nothing that Tristan is remotely interested in but is being forced to serve his duty and marry her. Things go so horribly wrong. Lives are lost and one that in particular absolutely gutted me. From one scene to the next you are thrown so many curves you just keep thinking "oh my goodness no" I'm still trying to form words to even come to terms with the ending. Be ready for a wild ride that will have you laughing so hard and then crying like a baby. Heck I know I was. Aequus was so well written you feel like you're going through every trial and emotion with each character. I can't wait for Nox ! Absolutely love this series!!"

This book was out of this world amazing.

First I want to say that I loved Zander in this book. I feel like he made this book for me. He was so funny and his witty comments made me laugh out loud.

Tristan and Serena annoyed me at times but it was still good. There was so much drama witch I love.

I don't want to wait till November to read the next book. I need it now.

I started reading this series last year. I feel in love with Vernal (book 1) of the Royal Academy Protector series. Great beginning. I jumped right into reading Aqeuus (book 2). I knew that the third book Nox would be out until later 2017, so I paused at 60% of the book. I didn’t feel like finishing book 2 and being left in anxiety until book 3 was released. It took a little longer than expected but Nox finally came out January of this year.

I still didn’t begin finishing reading Aqeuus right away. I needed to ensure that I would be able to read it uninterrupted. I was wondering if I should add it to my summer read but I decided what the heck, I have waited long enough, let me not torcher myself anymore. This weekend I found my quiet place and devoured the book.

This book blew me away. I scream for Tristan. How do I love Tristan, let me count the ways? Hot half gargoyle, half nymph. It’s no wonder he is wanted by women in every realm. His love for Serena, is beautiful. He is willing to do whatever it takes to be with the woman that he loves.

My favorite quote in this book.

“In her love, I find peace.”

I enjoy Serena. Her strength, and stubbornness. I don’t know if I would be able to watch the man that I love be with someone else. She showed strength that many of us wouldn’t be able to.
All the other characters in the series are great. The book is GREAT. Wait wrong word, it’s PHENOMENAL!!! The complexity of the book, how each character intertwines. You can never tell what’s coming next, you turn the page, biting your nails. When you feel that you have figured it out. Wrong, something else happens that throws you but it so… so… good.

If you are a fan of paranormal and fantasy novels and haven’t read this series. You are seriously lacking.

This is a series I will read again and again. Randi does a great job drawing readers into the novel. I felt as if I was apart of the story. Standing there on the side lines watching everything happening. Drooling over Tristan, wishing I was Serena.

I want to tell you so much but I need to keep it in. MUST… MUST… MUST READ!!!!

This is a phenomenal read.

Great second book...

I must say that I really enjoy reading this author's work. The world she creates is magical and I find that her gargoyles are totally hot. There are twist and turns within the plot that keeps you wanting more. Serena and Tristan's story is intriguing and has drawn me in. I will definitely be waiting for Nox to be released to see how their story ends.

Update 3/25/17:

That is how a book is written people! Stop everything right now and read this book. I don't care what you're doing, you just need to put everything down and take a couple hours and read this gorgeous, gutting book. Everything about it is perfection, and you will be blown away (once again) by Randi's amazing writing! Honestly, this book is unputdownable...and yes I made up a word specifically for this story because these are the types of things that Randi's stories do to me. With edge-of-your-seat suspense and thrilling plot twists (and boy are there a lot of them), you will not regret picking up Aequus.

description

The story picks up right where we left off...Tristan has left and Serena is left with her heart shattered. My heart absolutely broke for Serena during these first couple of moments, and honestly I should have known from the get go that this entire book would play with my heartstrings. Randi weaves such a beautiful tale of love, revenge, and romance. There is just something about her writing that sweeps me away instantly and allows me to truly escape for the entire time I'm reading her gorgeous prose. The pacing is something that really stood out for me in this novel because the story flows perfectly. There is never a dull moment, and you are instantly transported into the amazing world that Randi has so flawlessly created. We get to explore new places and just when you think you can't learn any more new info, we find out so much more! It's exciting to say the least!!

description

But you want to know my absolute favorite thing about this book (and Randi's books in general)? The characters. Randi has crafted truly amazing characters that you instantly connect with. They're relatable and easily gain a special place in your heart. Tristan and Serena are magnificent characters and their development throughout the story is remarkable. Both Tristan and Serena are willing to fight for each other until their dying breaths (is this a hint? I'll never tell...because I'm evil like that). I love being able to read from both of their POVs because it adds so much more to the story. Tristan is just as much of a mess as Serena is after being forced to take the throne next to Freya (aka evil girl trying to break up Tristan and Serena). I loved how vulnerable he was around Serena and it's clear that Serena truly makes him a better person. Their love for each knows no bounds and their banter is classic. Serena is willing to do anything and everything to get back the person she loves. And when they finally come together, their love is electric and sparks fly everywhere. The love they have for each other is palpable. You want to believe with everything in you that Tristan and Serena will have a HEA, but the ultimate question is...will they?

The one character I do want to mention in particular though is Zander because he was seriously hilarious in this book! I loved him when he was introduced in the first novel, Vernal, but in this book his humor and sass is on point! He had me laughing hysterically and there was a nice fourth-wall type thing in one scene that all fans of Randi will appreciate.

There are some very shocking moments in this book that you will never see coming, and there was one death in particular that had me crying and had my heart breaking. I actually dropped my Kindle because I didn't think I read the scene correctly, but alas I did. And the story is now short one character that no on will expect to die. This was my face:

description

But most importantly the entire ending will leave you begging to have Nox in your hands as soon as possible. I didn't want to believe that Randi would end the book that way, but who was I kidding...she loves to torture us! I don't know how I'm going to make it until November.

Do not miss out on this amazing book! With plenty of twists and turns, a heart-pounding and explosive romance, and characters that incredibly well written, Aqeuus has it all, and is sure to be a hit! You will not be disappointed with a story this epic!

Happy reading :)

What the hell with that ending?! Need to read the next one right.now.

I am definitely enjoying this more than the original series but it’s still not quite a 5 star read, but so close. Perhaps 4.67.

LOVED IT!!!
Aequus, is the second book for "The Royal Protector Academy novel trilogy". I was left impressed as I was from the first novel of the series. It is a great fantasy/ romance / action book.
Serena is a young gargoyle "princess" (inside joke) who fell in love with Tristan Gallagher. She is strong and a bit stubborn. Tristan is half gargoyle and a prince as well.
In this novel, Serena is trying to fight for the love that she has for Tristan, and in the process danger is lurking around. There were many surprises in this novel, action, betrayal, lost, hurt, love etc. Things did not fold the way I thought they would. Who does't like the unexpected? It is not predictable which is far more interesting. If you have not read the first book I strongly suggest you read "Vernal" first. You will meet all the characters that are in this book as well and understand the background to this story. The other characters are well put together and you cannot help but also love the others. It's not just the story of Serena and Tristan, but others as well. There is also much answered questions that left me wondering from the first book certain things. Secrets are uncovered and I now will wait patiently (wink, wink) for the third book "Nox". Can't wait!! And yes I finished this book in one day; I was off from work.

***I received this book from the author, publisher or representative in return of an honest review. All opinions are my own.***

Abso-Posi-LutelyA+++
This is my second novel my Wilson, and again I'm in love with her writing. Her characters are so dynamic that I cannot help but love them. Even the most despised characters keep me enthralled.

After Vernal, my emotions were all over the place, so waiting for Aequus was stressful enough...until I read this book. I was emotional during the entire book as I waited to see what would happen with Tristan and Serena. My how I love them and their stubbornness and their strength. Not only are they a fan favorite, but Zander is totes my comic relief and I am hopeful that he will have his own story.

Aequus, which I learned means "equal" is a perfect description of the relationship between Serena and Tristan. As the war approaches, they must work together and uncover secrets kept between the realms. Unfortunately all is not what it seems and just when I thought it was safe to go into the water a new danger shows its face. Gasp, now I have to wait until November for NOX!

Start this series NOW before its too late!!!!

I did not want this book to end. I love that Serena and Tristan are equals, and look forward to seeing them fight for each other in the last book. I hope that as they grow, that they will stop running from each other and start running towards one another when trouble strikes. I hope that they will learn from their mistakes and realize that they are stronger together, they have wasted enough time. This book was full of secrets and lies, and I can not wait until everyone can live in the light of truth. My favorite characters by far are Zander, Mag, and Gage. I'm not saying I don't love Selena and Tristen, but if I hadn't been charmed by Zander in the first book I was thoroughly won over during this one. I can't wait for the next one to see what happens! My only complaint was that as I neared the end of the story I thought I had more pages as I was at 89%, and when I went to see what happens next there was NOTHING!!!! WAHHHHHH! There was, however an excerpt from her next book, Stolas, so it wasn't a total loss…But I will anxiously awaiting the next installment of this series while poor Tristen is lost to his darkness for a good 6 months…poor, broody Tristen!

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. Now I need Nox, because I NEED to know what happens!!!!!! These books need to be longer lol This novel broke my heart. Seriously just shattered it. Tristan and Serena are fighting against Fate to be together with the help of Tristan's brother Zander. And the Dark Army is closing in on Serena, and Tristan is betrothed to the Water Nymph Freya. It seems that everything is against them. And just when everything seems to fall into place, and they get their happy, the world falls out from underneath them once again...In this book, Tristan's biggest ally is not only Zander, but an unlikely source, Gage. You won't want to miss out on this epic adventure. And I will be impatiently awaiting the release of Nox, the next in the series.

********** Contain Some Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book, and thought it was a good follow up to Vernal. Tristan has decided to give up on his heart, Serena in order to bring peace to the Woodland and Water Realms. In order to do this he accepts that he has to marry Freya the nymph princess from the Water Realm. Their marriage contract was placed when they were born. Freya apparently loves Tristan and expects that when they get married that Tristan will eventually love her, even though hes told her multiple times over the years that he doesn’t love her romantically, but more like a sister. Tristan has locked Serena out of the Woodland Realm,, as he knows that she’ll do something reckless to try and stop him. She’s losing it, and it isn’t until Zander shows up and tells her that he thinks that Oren, the Emperor of the Water Realm, and his mother Ophelia, Queen of the Woodland Realm are concluding together about the marriage for some reason, therefore it could be seen as treason, and if the Water and Woodland Realms go to war it could feed over into the Human Realm so Serena is doing her role in coming to the Woodland Realm to investigate. Zander and Serena pretend to be courting each other as a way to allow her entrance to the Woodland Realm since Tristan banned her. F*ck Zander is hilarious and he made the story that much better.

All I can say is that Tristan doesn’t take it well when Zander shows up with Serena. I loved how much Zander and Serena’s friendship grows during this book. Tristan finds out from Freya what the Vergina Sun Prophecy actually means, and why his mother made a deal with Helios. Freya thinks that she is going to fulfil it and will be his cessation after they’re married, but he’s already chosen as his Satyr mark is behind Serena’s ear. After this he finds Zander and Serena searching Ophelia’s office and talking about treason and Tristan’s mark, he appears and they tell him the real reason for Serena being there. Tristan, Zander and Serena know that Oren is up to something since he’s moved the nuptials up. They agree not to tell anyone about their plans, as its hard to no who to trust. Wow, all I can say is Freya is a complete nut job especially about the lengths she’d go to get rid of Serena and get Tristan to love her. She took two Royal Protectors lives, to get Serena out of the Woodland Realm to go investigate but her uncle Asher, the king of the gargoyle race made her stay in the Woodland Realm by Royal Decree. This book was a complete emotional roller coaster, and had a lot of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the aftermath of Tristan, Zander and Serena’s plan, considering it didn’t turn out like they’d hoped, and more lives were lost. One I was really upset about so thanks for making me shed some tears Randi. I’d definitely recommend this, book, series, universe and author to everyone.

I received this eARC from Red Coat Publishing and the author. This is my honest review.

Caution - this synopsis and review will contain spoilers from the first book, Vernal. You have been warned!

Serena found out that her one true love, Tristan, is engaged to be married. And she even knows his fiancee - Freya. But when Freya was talking about her fiancee, Serena thought she meant Zander, not Tristan.

With this new information, Serena feels that she can't possibly ruin the peaceful union between the woodland people and the water people. But the more her and Zander think about the who's and the why's, the more they realize that things are not lining up the right way.

Serena convinces Zander to have her be his plus one to Tristan's wedding so they can figure out what is really going on and try to stop the wedding before it's too late.

The more that Serena learns about the wrong doings going on, the more she realizes that things need to get fixed, ASAP. And after cluing Tristan in on their plan, they have created their own plan to right the wrongs that are happening.

But their actions are going to have consequences - major, terrible ones. And the won't know what is going to happen until it's too late. And even then, things won't end up the way that they want.

True love is amazing, but it could also be the thing that ends them...

Wow. Seriously, I don't know where I have been that I have never 1. heard of this series and 2. never heard of this author. I am kicking myself so much because I love this series so much and I cannot wait to re-read them again already!

Plus, there is another series about the grown ups in this series so I can get even more!

Serena is one strong, kickass girl. She realized that things aren't really going the way that they should be and decides to fix it herself instead of wallow in self-pity. She is an action girl and I love that so much about her.

And Tristan is so swoony and so brooding, but also such a completely different guy when it comes to Serena. He was going to do his duty as the next heir of the woodland realm, but when sketchy things happen, he decides that his love for Serena wins out. I mean, that is so sweet!

I love the world that these character live in and I love all of the characters.

The cliffhanger ending is the worst, but thank goodness I have the next book and I am about to dive right in to see how everything gets all wrapped up!

If you have been under a rock like I have this whole time, I strongly recommend that you read this series! It's amazing!

Between a 4 and a 4.5. If you liked Vernal, you’ll love Aequus; in fact, I actually liked this one a little better. It had action, mystery, romance, humor, and suspense. The biggest difference was that throughout this book, I really felt Serena and Tristan’s (especially Tristan’s) desperation to be together.

Plot:
The end of Vernal revealed that Tristan’s mother had arranged his marriage to Freya to prevent a war between their kingdoms. When Zander suspects the motives behind the union may not be so clear, he and Serena team up and try to find the evidence and stop the wedding.

Characters:
In Vernal, Serena bothered me a little bit because she sometimes came across as a snarky, rebellious brat. Aequus shows a much more logical, mature side to her. The book showed a whole new side of Tristan as well. He was more open about his feelings, and (thank God) he was a lot more understanding about Gage. While Serena and Tristan were both great, Zander definitely made the book. He was absolutely hilarious and his comic relief diffused some very tense situations.

Writing:
Wilson’s writing is very easy to read. She is great at world building and her mythology is very well thought out. Like Vernal, Aequus is more New Adult; there is a lot of cursing (F-bombs included), tons of sexual tension, and a couple of sex scenes. (Side note: Those scenes were much less awkward than they were in Vernal. I’m truly grateful) There’s also a lot violence and several deaths, one of which is particularly devastating.

Bottom Line:
Aequus was quite the page-turner. There is always something going on, so there are no lulls in the action. The characters are also more enjoyable than they have been in the past. The sense of desperation that was present throughout the book made me all the more desperate to read it. The book’s ending only fueled that desperation; unfortunately, Nox won’t be out until November.

This book! This one completely gutted me. Raw, intense emotions from the first word. I actually had to rub the ache in my chest a few times. Aequus is book 2 in The Royal Protector Academy trilogy - a spin off of Randi's Revelation series (if you haven't read that series - GET IT - it is just THAT good) but you don't need to read that one first to enjoy this series (but you should, why wouldn't you?). The story picks up where we left off in Vernal, book 1 in the series. Tristan and Serena are connected in so many ways, but Tristan is betrothed to another to help unite realms and bring peace. Despite this, Serena promises to fight for Tristan with every breath she has left in her body. Will their love survive? Will it be enough, or will it end up destroying them both and everyone they love?

Randi has weaved an intricate and compelling story that will pull you in and leave you desperately wanting more. It is edge of your seat action; a beautifully written tale of love, loss, romance, fantasy and adventure. There are so many highs and lows, twists and turns to keep you engaged. You will not be able to put this down! Her writing inspires hope and faith in love and a HEA. She creates characters that you feel connected to; invested in their lives and their love. You will be holding your breath, waiting anxiously to find out how it will end....but, there is book 3 - Nox - the final book in the trilogy coming in November. SO we will all continue to wait, pine, and worry until the conclusion of the series.

Do not pass on this series. It will not disappoint in any way and you will definitely want more to read from this incredible author.

~~ I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

OK, I did one of those things where I read book two before I read book one. I didn't do it on purpose, but now I am going to go back and get book one and read that, then re-read this book again because it is that good. When I started this book I had some idea what I was getting into, I just didn't realize that I was going to be sucked in and left in a state of shock about what went on in this book. I mean there is action, then there is heart-stopping action and twists and turns that I never saw coming.

Im pretty sure that this is the first book that I have read by Randi Cooley Wilson, and I can tell you that it won't be the last. The detail that she writes about the places in this book are amazing. I felt that I was watching a movie when I was reading Aequus. All I can say is, even if you haven't read the first book, you will still want to read this book. I know that I am going to be going back to get book one. Take a chance on this book right now!

I love Randi Cooley Wilson's writing, so luckily I can go back and read all her other books while I wait for book 3 to come out, because that was a nasty cliffhanger. Aequus means "equal" and I love that the book stresses how Tristan and Serena are now equals. Unfortunately, their relationship jumps around quite a bit in this book, so it was hard for me to get as invested in them as I was in the first book. This is still a fantastic sequel with a great storyline that keeps the reader engaged. There are a lot of obstacles Serena, Tristan, and their family and friends must overcome. When one is defeated, more are placed in their way. I loved that Xander is more involved in this book, too. His big personality and humor are a joy to read about. Hopefully, he'll get his own book...???

Amazing once again!

I really cannot get enough of this author! She’s amazing in every sense of the word! This being the second book of the series, it doesn’t disappoint. It has everything, laughter, anger, sadness. We feel the characters exactly how she wants us to feel. The description in this book is amazing. You feel like you really are in their worlds and in the characters heads. It’s like a paranormal film playing in the background in my head. That’s how easily it is to picture what is happening. Your heart feels the characters like they were my own best friends!
Can’t wait to read Nox the third and final book in the series!

The start of this next book in this series was so sad, they both are in so much pain. Zander tells Serena “You should know, whenever the clouds roll into the realm, he frowns, knowing it’s you hurting “. Serena and Zander come with a plan, yes it works for awhile but some parts are really hard to read. There are so many characters that you can’t or not sure you can trust. Then the three of them come up with another plan and it does work to a point but then everything goes wrong, people are lost, devastated, and hard choices are made. Tristan makes quite the sacrifice but only to have his worst nightmare came to fruition.

What can I say about Tristan and his Raindrop? They're still adorable and both as stubborn and strong willed as ever.  I loved that a little more of Zander was revealed in this book.  Bets are wagered, promises are made and lives lost.  My heart ached and swelled, and my eyes struggled to hold back tears.  I loved this monster of a cliffhanger.

The good new is...there's only 15 more days until the finale.  I'm counting down the days.

This book had me wanting to pull my hair out by the end. My hairs really thick so I guess a few strands loss is okay. I love this part: “”And for sure let’s bring your brother, who is in love with my best friend, and whom I am pretending to court.” “Who writes this shit?” Zander asks. “Whoever it is, they have a ducking dark sense of humor,” I reply.”” I absolutely agree and love it. I need the next one.

I don't know where to start ! Utterly BRILLIANT!! The second book in the series did not disappoint. The characters are amazing - I totally fell for Tristen and Serena all over again. Loved the added time with Zander - fantastic character so funny and sarcastic, he kept me laughing out loud. Watching these characters develop and grow over this series has been a totally wild ride. I love them :) So many heartbreaking moments not to mention the twists, don't get me started on the twists ! You will never believe what happens and then BAM another twist jumps out of nowhere . I laughed and yes I cried my heart soared and broke more than once. Fantastic book and a fantastic world to get lost in.

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Aequus is good. Normally second books to me are a little lackluster as they tend to build up to the third book. Not this one. From page one it is go go go! A few times I thought it was going to go one way, and it went another. I love when authors do that. The cliff hanger ending has me on edge and confused. But it makes me wanna read the next book!

I did not put this book down. I love the characters and was excited to watch the story develop. Rarely do I like a second book more than a first book. For me the love story between Tristen and Serena was amazing. They are not sappy and I enjoyed the plot twists. Can I say I wanted more of Zander. The one downside of this book is we have to wait so long for the final book in the trilogy.

I really loved this 2nd instalment to the royal protector series. I love how Tristan and Serena are continuing to fight for their love despite every obstacle that gets shoved into their path. For this couple love and strength will hopefully conquer all in the end.
I can't wait to read the 3rd and final book in the series. No doubt it's gonna be emotional and I'm guessing a HEA 😊

Aequus jumps right in where Vernal leaves off, and has a lot of action from the get-go. There are a lot of twists and turns, some unexpected character development and untimely deaths, but RCW sucks you in to another quick page-turner. I had to take a break before reading the next installment, Nox, but be sure that's one of my next reads!

Loved it

Great second book in the series! I read the first book back in 2017 right before this book came out and just forgot about it. I decided to reread it and include the other two books. I loved the revelation series and this spinoff is great so far. Tristan is my favorite with Zander as a close second. Can’t wait to find out the ending. Hoping for an amazing HEA.

Amazing

I love the book. What a rollercoaster ride! So many twist and turns. I laughed and I cried. Zander keeps us grounded and giggling. Just when Tristan thinks he's figured his and Serena's way to a cessation... it's not what any of us think we could predict. I loved the descriptions of all the different realms we travel through. Wars will be fought. People we care for die. Hearts will break. Betrayals abound here. Old nemesis re-emerge. And then there is Gage...Sexy brooding bad boy. Randi Cooley Wilson's imagination is phenomenal as is her sense of humor. You won't want to miss out on AEQUUS book two in RPA series. Looking forward to an epic conclusion in the next book NOX ❤❤

As always beautifully written. I have to say I felt so many emotions while reading Aequus. There are so many twists some sad and some happy. Overall this book has me begging for more and I can't wait to read Nox. I need more of Tristan and Serena's story. Theirs is a love that want die and a bond that can never be broken.
