A physical domestic argument led a police involved shooting Friday night in Owensboro. The Owensboro Police Department called the Kentucky State Police about the officer involved shooting around 11:30 p.m.

Troopers and detectives say the shooting happened at the 600 block of Delray Street.

When Owensboro Police officers arrived, they witnessed 29-year-old Lucas Anderson grab the female by her hair and put a knife to her throat during the argument. The officers confronted Anderson, in an attempt to deescalate the situation.

The Owensboro officers tried to negotiate with Anderson by asking him to drop his knife and let the female go. Anderson threw the woman to the side and immediately charged the two OPD officers with the knife in an effort to harm the officers.

The two officers felt they were in danger and shot Anderson multiple times.

Officers checked his vitals and began conducting life-saving measures but the male suspect was pronounced dead on scene by Daviess County Coroner, Jeff Jones.

The female victim was immediately taken to Owensboro Health in an ambulance suffering multiple knife lacerations on and around her head and neck. She also sustained injury to her knee from being forcefully thrown to the ground. The female victim was admitted and is in stable condition.

The officers involved are 51-year-old Mike Matthews, of Owensboro and 43-year-old Gary Mattingly. Neither of the officers were hurt.

Both have been placed on paid administrative leave.
