bygoneboy:

so i was just going through the recesses of my writing tag for kicks, and i’m realizing how often i was straight-up ignored in fandom– as recently as a year ago. the friends i used to have in those fandoms would know that i’d be writing, but they’d never read my work. i used to get maybe 5 notes on fic, if i was lucky. other drabbles i’ve written have literally zero notes, nothing, nada.

now (predominantly in the kylux fandom) i’ve made friends who support/encourage/always reblog my stuff, even if it’s not really their thing. i get asks about my works in progress and have followers who are legitimately excited for me to post new content.

attention isn’t everything, you should only write for yourself, blah, blah, i used to hear that over and over again, but honestly, it’s so much easier to write when you know you’ll have readers. i’m for sure not the most popular writer in this fandom (i’m not even in most people’s top ten) but i still feel so fucking fortunate to be surrounded with so much positivity when at this time last year, i’d work for a week on a piece only for it to maybe get one like, no reblog.

so to everyone who struggles with being anonymous or feel like they’re ignored in fandom, keep writing. it sucks when you’re not recognized, i know– but you’ll get there if you keep at it, i promise ✌
