EU leaders to discuss Syria, ties with Russia at summit

BRUSSELS, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Leaders of the 28-member European Union will discuss the dramatic developments in Syria and the EU's ties with Russia during their two-day summit in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, in his invitation letter to the EU leaders Tuesday said the "objective is to address our overall, long-term relations with this important neighbour (Russia). Our main asset in dealing with Russia remains our unity." However, EU sources told journalists that the summit will not discuss imposing more economic sanctions on Moscow.
On Syria, Tusk said EU High Representative Federica Mogherini will present the outcome of the discussions in the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, and that the EU summit will adopt conclusions on Syria.
The summit will also tackle migration and trade issues. (end) nk.bs
