Outclass

Update: Outclass has moved to Roncesvalles. Please be aware that some information presented here may be out of date.

Outclass is a high end menswear shop right next door to Tavoos at College and Dufferin. This is the flagship store of the wholesale brand that began in 2010. They ship to retailers in the States and Canada, but here customers can see the full Outclass line rather than just the pieces that boutiques pick and choose.

Outclass is run by partners Rebecca Sarracini and Matteo Sgaramella, the latter of whom is the head designer of all the apparel. Sgaramella went to OCAD initially to find his path as a graphic designer, but ended up doing branding for a menswear company as his final project.

The leap into fashion has manifested for Sgamarella into this clean, no-nonsense shop on College with white walls and a black ceiling and display racks that sort of look like sawhorses. Long tables down the middle showcase more seasonal items, and look for accessories on lower shelves. At the back there's a raised area that serves as the company's office.

Everything is manufactured right here in Toronto and each item is personally inspected to make sure it's ready for sale on the floor or online, so you can rest easy knowing you're getting a quality local product.

Your wallet might not though: be aware that even accessories like this charcoal wool toque for $59 will set you back a pretty penny.

These gloves are on the cheaper end of things for $38, and you know they'll last and their neutral tones go with everything. Who doesn't need an awesome pair of fingerless gloves? Buy a good pair for yourself or give them as a thoughtful and luxurious gift that doesn't break the bank.

None of the apparel at Outclass is overly colourful or uses any print, but with a price point and quality assurance like this the idea is you'll spend a chunk of change once and then be able to keep that garment for a really long time and wear it with a ton of different outfits. This bomber jacket is a whopping $565, but touches like a playful lining and leather storm flap add value.

The apparel is all 100% manufactured in Toronto and most of the fabric is too, but for their shirts they sometimes import fabric from Spain, Italy, Portugal and Japan. These shoes ($395) are the only item in the shop manufactured entirely in Italy and not in Toronto, right down to the waxed laces.

Though this is menswear, women can shop here too: Sarracini herself wears the trainers.
