Hello, I am glad I am not the only one. I am seeing threads all over the web about this. I just got the iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black 256 Gig from Verizon about a week ago (It was a Pre-order).

The phone overheats anytime I use it. Doing things as simple as checking my email, browsing the web or even swiping through my home screens cause the device to rapidly heat up.

The only other phones I have ever had heat problems with are the Samsung Galaxy S Series (I am an app dev so unfortunately have to have an Android). Those get so hot It is crazy. Now to my disappointment, after spending a grand on a cell phone it is doing the same thing. My phone is always in an Air Conditioned space.

I am coming from the iPhone 6s 128 Gig which never had this problem, and dare I say it - seems even faster then the 7.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I have this problem as well and It seems to be an issue.

I am going to call Apple Support and see how they handle this...

I wish Steve Jobs was still with us!! Anyway my rant is over.

Hi! I recently had that exact same issue. I contacted Verizon and they sent me a new device. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred. I made an appointment at my local Apple store and because of iOS10 it is necessary to backup restore the phone to its original settings via iTunes not iCloud. I was simply restoring from an iCloud backup. Once I did a "hard" restore via iTunes and downloaded my purchased apps as if I had a new phone, the problem was solved. This also helped with the battery life [I was having major issues with this as well as the overheating issue].

Hope this helps!!

I am a Vodafone UK customer and received my iPhone 7+ 128gb matte black on Friday 14th October. Following a day of perfect performance the phone began to increase in temperature to the point that the excessive heat dialogue was displayed and the phone shut down. After 20 mins of cool down it came back on but was still excessively hot. I turned the phone off but it continued to remain hot. Finally after 2 hours the phone could be turned back on. Despite the phone being turned off the battery had dropped from 95% to 32%. Could the phone be operating despite being switched off?

I performed a hard reset and Vodafone UK are going to replace the unit (in the next 6 weeks). Hopefully the replacement device will operate better than this one.

I have been an iPhone owner since the 3GS and this is the first time I have been disappointed by the device. I hope Apple acknowledge this issue as being outside of normal operating parameters and assist their customers.

This will happen when you first buy and set up your phone, especially if you are using your icloud backup. It can take 1-2 days and will require a hard reboot. It is downloading and indexing a lot of data and that creates heat. Your phone has an internal thermometer which wont let it get hot to the point of injury to you or damage to the phone. I am confident that most of the Sep. posters have long since stopped having this issue.
