Georgia’s Film Industry Steps Up to Help Hurricane Matthew Victims

Date:

Hurricane Matthew leaves Georgia actors stranded but, one Atlanta casting director stepped up and saved the day.

Hurricane Matthew is terrorizing homes, families, and children along the East Coast. The category 4 hurricane is currently destroying everything in the storm’s path. Unfortunately, several Georgia actors were left without a place to stay thanks to Mother Nature.

However, one Atlanta casting director is stepping up to save those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Jamie Catrett from Catrett Casting quickly took to Facebook to help Georgia actors left stranded in Atlanta.

“Hey guys we have several stranded BG in Atlanta trying to find rooms and hotels from the storm. If you have a room for rent or own a hotel (that we somehow haven’t called tonight!), or a room on Air BnB.. will you send in your information? – Jamie Lynn”

The support was incredible. In less than 12 hours, many actors found a place to stay. Jamie commented on the Facebook post by saying the amount of support from the Georgia film community brought her “tears of joy”.

Update.. just want to say that this really makes me want to cry tears of joy. Please don’t listen when people tell you that our world has gone to crap! Several people are writing in and offering places for people to stay!! Thank you to FRIENDS OF OUR PAGE!! – Jamie

We asked Jamie about the feedback from the Facebook post and she said it worked “instantly” and that many people were willing to open their doors to strangers for free.

“I posted and within seconds people were sending in responses saying, ‘I have a room, a couch.. a futon.. no charge'”

Jamie added that “seeing everyone open their homes and couches made me overwhelmed with emotion”.

Atlanta’s film industry maybe growing at an incredibly fast pace but, that doesn’t stop the film community from joining together and helping those in need.
