Wally Fresch, a young layabout living in Brooklyn, has hit a rough patch recently. After the current economic fallout left Wally out of work, he has been struggling to pay his rent and get his life back in order. As a result, he has taken on a new roommate, Barry (a spirit animal from the spirit World). Together with their next-door neighbor with a deadly past, Valerie, the three now get into just about any trouble they can find. Cupid’s Arrow finds Wally attempting to relieve his romantic woes by turning to the world of internet dating. He quickly finds the woman who might just be “The One.” However, Valerie has her suspicions. She warns Barry that a serial killer is on the loose, a deadly beauty targeting men in the tri-state area through online dating. Afraid that Wally might be next, Valerie and Barry race against time as they try to solve the mystery of the Marmalade Mangler.

'The Adventures of Wally Fresh: Cupid's Arrow' by Turner Lange is about a young man living in Brooklyn with a spirit animal named Barry (who looks like a Beaver) and a neighbor named Valerie. They find trouble to get into. Apparently.

Wally hasn't had a date for a while. He meets a woman online and is going to meet her. Barry initially is just going to stay home, take drugs with Valerie, and watch 'The Secret of N.I.M.H.' When Valerie finds out that Wally met her online, she thinks he might be in danger, so she and Barry find the restaurant that Wally is at and go full ninja on the date. Are they correct about this freckled woman who is in Wally's life or are they out to lunch?

It's mildly raunchy, and very ludicrous. For one, the idea that people who take this level of drugs have the competency or fitness level to perform the kind of martial arts depicted in the book. For another, there are too many beaver jokes. The whole thing feels a bit like juvenile fantasy. The story is pretty predictable. The art isn't bad, but at some times, I found it hard to distinguish what was being drawn. At other times, I really liked what I was seeing.

So, it feels a bit rough, but there are things I did like Some of the art. Some of the martial arts stuff. I think there is something interesting here, but just not this time.

Review for NetGalley ARC.

I really had a hard time with this one, it was weird for the sake of just being weird and I know it was the first issue but I left it just confused and pretty annoyed by the main character Wally.

I liked the spirit beaver and junkie chick but I still don't know why he is living with a spirit animal and Wally just wasn't all that likable and was kind of just another misogynistic male character that the world really just not need anymore.

I did like the random over the top fight at the end it was funny and if there was more of that I might not have disliked the comic as much.

I usually try and give comics two or three issues before I decided if I like it or not and this one is no different.

Actually a pretty fun, irreverent book. The artwork needs to be sharpened up. Definitely a book for mature readers. The book was really odd in that sometimes curse words were bleeped out and other times they weren't.
