Forza Horizon 3 – PC vs. Xbox One Graphics Comparison

Video

We compare the graphics of Forza Horizon 3 on PC and Xbox One. PC is set to max graphics while motion blur is turned off. There is an overview of the graphics options at the end of the video.

The test PCs were using an i7 6700K and i7 5820K, alongside 980 Ti GPUs.

Horizon is amazing on X1.

But compared to pc (and we're looking at 1080p60 shitty video from youtube) it is a blurry "mess".

Hopefully the game will be performing fine on a great variety of setups, and not only the highest end.

Hmm, looks like there's something wrong with the anti-aliasing (or maybe the way the buffers are combined) on the PC version.

Pretty bad comparison using 1080p with youtube compression.

The game looks stunning on both though.

I got banned for jokingly saying someone was part of the keyboard master race, and ever since I see it said all the damn time.

Great on both.

Advantages on PC probably more on the fps side.

Standing still there's nothing to write home about.

He clearly does not have MSAA on the PC version, why turn off the motion blur too, makes no sense when trying to do a comparison.

Game looks fantastic anyway.

The motionblur in these games is so great, i don't know why they would disable it. It's such a distinct look and really adds positively to the visuals.

This is surely the 'default' ultra setting, where dynamic shit is still turned on right. Plus low AA?

F6 Apex looks a lot cleaner than this when configured correctly and I would expect FH3 to have the same graphics options. More or less.

What's up with the AA on the PC version.

It's clearly turned off or low, like 2xMSAA.

Also, glad to know the cars are truly the higher LOD versions on PC. I've been missing that, especially after seeing some weird LOD models on FH2 like the Fiesta ST which looked like some panel gaps were drawn on.

Compare the wipers, the Xbox version has the caps covered up, and in the "nose" area of the car there's a clear seam that splits the reflections. The PC one looks much smoother and more accurate which will look great in photomode.

Also, anyone else feel so giddy finally seeing a Horizon game at 60?

Both versions look outstanding other than I'm not sure what's going on with the AA in the PC version. The game supports MSAA and yet they still have a good deal of jaggies here. I wonder if they forgot to turn off the Dynamic Rendering feature?

Either way the PC port is looking great and it's incredible they were able to get those level of visuals on a 1.3 TF GPU

I bet they are using 'dynamic Ultra', where all the individual settings are dynamic. You need to select custom then manually set everything to Ultra to configure it properly for max graphics.

Modern day game journos SMH.

Edit - Actually no, I'm wrong. I see they show the graphics menu at the end. Well that image quality is surprising to say the least with 8xMSAA. even at 1080p.

I wonder if my i5-3570k/GTX970/16GB will be able to handle this well. I feel like my rig is starting to fall behind :(

Looking at the graphical settings pictures floating around yesterday, I think the default Ultra setting has both msaa and fxaa on which will cause bad aliasing problems. That might be the case here

The big thing is certainly the framerate.

After that the X1's lack of AF sticks out again, especially in a racing game where you often stare at distant flat surfaces at a low angle. Why don't console games use AF again? Did we ever get an answer on that?

The LOD differences you'd probably never notice while playing.

How would that cause aliasing problems? There's people who don't like the softness that comes with FXAA, but it shouldn't cause the grainy, shimmering edges we see here.

I love how I'll be able to play both versions with my one purchase. I think I'm going to be spending most of my time at 60 FPS though.

There's a LOT of pop in in the jungle areas, at least in the demo.

Yeah, just give me a button to flip that says "XB1 graphics with 100% constant 60fps" for the PC version and I'll be happy, don't need additional posh with my GTX 970, Xbox version looks totally fine.

Why would you not want sharper reflections, shadows better AF and higher lod?

Aside from being 1080p and using MSAA I find the visuals rather underwhelming.

The foilage pop-in, "dem trees", the lack of AF, aggressive lod swaps, shadow draw-in, low poly car models, dysmal reflections, weak weather effects.

A collection of cut backs to create an open world. (i know, i know, Horizons purpose, but still)
