If you've ever complained that you just can't get the hang of doing a smoky eye on yourself, boy was this the Fashion Week for you. Not one, not two, but at least four (and probably more because Rag and Bone isn't even in this story) shows this season showcased a sweaty, smudgy black liner that should be attractive to even the least eye makeup-inclined among us. Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Baja East, and Narciso Rodriguez all had the simple but dramatic eyeliner look on display at their shows. It's perfect for summer, but also right now, because it was still 90°F in New York at press time. And you can also run to the bathroom and try it out immediately because you most likely already own the tools. Get ready, get set, here's the easiest makeup tutorial you've ever seen.

Step 1: Grab your favorite black liner. ITG recommends L'Oréal Infallible Silkissime or Laura Mercier Kajal d'Orient.

Step 2: Draw your liner fururiously on that fleshy part of your hand between your thumb and your forefinger. We will call this your hand palette from here on out. Get enough on there that you can move it around.

Step 3: Grab a fluffy brush that's not too big. This one's good.

Step 4: Pick up a decent amount of liner from your hand by swirly the brush in it. Then roughly rim your lash lines (top and bottom) with the brush, blending constantly so the color disipates as it gets farther away from the lashes.

Step 5 (optional): Add some balm—Cora Emmanuel uses Balm Dotcom, but anything sticky will do. Feel free to rub your eyes all you want. It adds to the effect.
