Miriam Santiago back in hospital for cancer treatment, but not in ICU

Former senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has again been brought to hospital for cancer treatment, her daughter-in-law said Sunday.

Mechel Santiago, however, denied in a statement posted on her Facebook account that the feisty former senator was in critical condition and was in the intensive care unit.

"Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is in a private room of St. Luke's Global, not in the ICU. She is currently being treated for her cancer and the family is hoping that she will fully recover," Mechel said.

Santiago was rushed to the Makati Medical Center late May for pneumonia due to complications from lung cancer. She was discharged a week later.

Santiago ran for president in the last May elections, but lost to President Rodrigo Duterte. —ALG, GMA News
