Samsung Recalls Galaxy Note 7 Devices, Will Replace All Units With a New One

Today, Samsung announced it will recall its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone due to fire-prone batteries. Sales of new units are currently halted as well.

The exploding battery issue was first reported by the news agency Yonhab in South Korea and while only 35 cases have been reported, Samsung decided a recall was best. Right now, it’s not clear exactly how the recall will work, but Samsung says more details will come out in the coming weeks.

Speaking with Recode, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile all claim they’re working on replacement plans and deals. Verizon is waiving its restocking fee completely if you want to skip the recall and get another phone entirely.
