Moroccan developer Nareva has deployed what it says is the first lidar installed in the country for its 200MW Akhenfir wind farm.

The company acquired the Zephir DM lidar to maximise the potential value of the project, it said.

Nareva is owned by Societe Nationale d'Investissement, a holding controlled by Morocco's King Mohammed VI.

The device measures the wind remotely, removing the need for tall met mast structures and their associated planning requirements.

It has a dual mode functionality that allows it to work on the ground for traditional resource assessment or on the turbine for operational analysis.

“Nareva selected Zephir DM because of the dual mode functionality of the unit, the ability to scan across the full rotor diameter in turbine mounted mode and the excellent customer service reputation,” Nareva head of performance and asset management Nyzar Jorio said.

“As we move into the next phase of Morocco's wind energy revolution we look forward to working closely with Zephir lidar.”
