Once they’re gone, can you ever get them back?

As a CIA spy turned traitor to her country, Cara Lee kissed her virtues goodbye long ago. After seventeen years, her retribution ended with the burial of her enemy and a fresh start with her daughter. If only she could forgive herself enough to rebuild their relationship.

Luck—her daughter’s fiancé—wasn’t Cara’s only attempt at atonement. She took Marina Sorensen off a Swedish street corner and schooled her in the art of survival. Too bad the girl sold her and Luck out to the thugs of Brödraskapet.

Her disciplined nature prods Cara to tie the loose end—one way or the other. But the commander of the UN’s special forces has other plans. The last thing she wants is another government job. Given an ultimatum—and a babysitter—she plays along.

Tyler Grace should have been a farmer in east Texas, but the universe had other plans. A tactical expert for the Base Branch, when he finds a problem, he seeks the best way to fix it. Cara presents an obstacle he’s ill prepared to conquer—but he’ll die trying.

Struggling to sort through her past, Cara clings to the one virtue she has left, while Tyler dares to prove she never lost them.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review. All words, opinions and views are solely my own given freely.

Virtues - — noun
1. moral excellence; goodness; righteousness, valor
3. conformity of one's life and conduct to moral and ethical principles; uprightness; rectitude.

This book follows the journey of Cara Lee whom we met first in Danger Mine, with Khani sending out a team to locate and being her in. Then in Versions, we got to see a bit more of her, and an intro to the messy history when she had no choice but to leave her family and daughter behind and disappear. That said we are so ready for her story, the whys and wherefores that weaves this lady who, although is no spring chicken, is fighting ready and able to do what needs done to keep her loved ones safe. We also see a bit more of Rin and Luck from Versions and allow you to feel the flow of the series as other characters and scenarios overlap and coincide with other books of the series.

You feel for Cara and the need for her life to be slower now and rekindle relationships with her Dad and daughter, and she can relax somewhat from the hyper vigilance that is so much part of her. I find her hard and crusty, a lot like Tucker (the BB director) before he became tamed (*wink), with a huge well of hidden softness inside that really has been so suppressed and subdued that you want so much for her to have peace, to reclaim her humanness and feel again.

We see this true mother keeping her chicks in line and I love that she finds her HEA, although very hard won, we get to smile at the end of it all. Thanks to Tyler being this big oaf sweet boy, of course with the Base Branch biceps and body, to snap her to attention and allow her to have someone in her corner who'll take care of her and not always her taking care of everyone. This one to me was mostly about growth and forgiveness of self as well as letting go a bit of control and allow some of your hard shell to slip away. I think Cara is my favorite female so far, somewhat like Sloan with the trust issues and suppressed emotions, but so much in need of TLC.

Now that is only part of the experience as you are subjected to many action packed scenarios and tense moments that you have major trouble putting the book aside. True to form this is a Base Branch book full characters and complete with a bit of everything, sometimes more than the kitchen sink.

Only critique I can give is that they are not long enough and like a favorite series you have to wait for another dose of your favorite bunch of hard bodied heroes and independent heroines but I respect the process and the author very much so I guess it's like a special treat you know is coming and you wait patiently to unwrap and savor... YUM!!!!!!!

In Versions, we were introduced to Cara Lee and got to know a little about her past, but not the depths of it all, so I was already looking forward to Virtues because I really enjoyed the small glimpses we got into her. Cara is so similar to other heroines in the series, but also not comparable at all.

Cara, Rin, and Luck are all brought to an underground meeting where they are all offered a job within Base Branch, and Cara's offered a second chance at freedom to live her life. But its hard for Cara to trust anyone and she doesn't want her kids to be involved in anything like what Base Branch is offering. There's still so much from her past that Cara hasn't shared, that she doesn't want to share, but she knows its waiting out there and could come back, come after her and those she loves.
Cara realizes if she wants a real future with her daughter, a life not lived on the run and seemingly borrowed time, she'll have to confront her past and face the present head on. What she doesn't expect is that there will be someone who wants to help her do it all.

Tyler was such a nut to crack, he's hard on himself, he feels guilt often and wonders how those around him don't seem to. He finds himself intrigued by Cara, there's something there, but she doesn't want to give him a chance, in truth, she seems to want nothing to do with him, but Tyler doesn't let that hold him back. Their interactions were rife with tension, a lack of trust, and feelings of unworth amongst other issues. But when Tyler finds himself pulled into the middle of Cara's haunting past, things change.

Virtues is an amazing addition to the series, with characters that are strong, that are willing to fight, and just enough suspense to keep you on edge and wondering what will come next. This story left a build up into the next book which will be connected and give us more answers in the overall ARC of the story. I loved the glimpes we got of base branch operatives in this story, telling us where those characters are now and showing how base branch operates as a close knit group, a family of sorts.

I, for one, can't wait to dive into variations and see what's coming for these characters and the future of Base Branch.

Cara returned from the “dead” to the U.S. to save her daughter’s life. The book picks up in the warehouse apartment where Cara, Luck, and Rin are preparing to defend themselves from capture. A big man, armed to the teeth, wants Cara to come along with him. Red dots from multiple sniper rifles are aimed at her through the window. He’s not CIA but won’t identify who sent him. He said he could fix it so she could stop running and be with her daughter, Rin, in peace. But Cara knew that nothing is ever free.

The stranger, Tyler “Bulldogger” Grace, had each of them disarm. He knew where Cara had hidden every single weapon on her body. She made her move to take him down, but he overcame her easily, her first defeat! With her daughter in danger, Cara had to comply. They were driven to a secret facility and the Director of the Base Branch Operations laid out his request. He said he could fix it so she would not have to run anymore – if she would become a part of the Base Branch organization! It was a tempting offer, but could she ever get past her bitterly intense – and rightfully warranted -- mistrust of government agencies! Could she find it in her heart to stay and help her daughter build a beautiful future? Could she find happiness for herself at last? Or was she compelled to remain deep in hiding where no one would ever find her again? Then everything changed when she got the phone call.

I absolutely loved this book! The action is continuous and you never know where it’s going to lead. The main characters were strong and earned the reader’s respect. The suspense was always close to the surface. I highly recommend this book! It will definitely pique your interest and draw you into the entire series.

Virtues, Base Branch Book 8, by Megan Mitcham is a great read! The chemistry between Cara Lee, the heroine, and Tyler Grace, the hero, is off the charts. I really enjoyed the way they danced around their attraction to each other. They both have their issues, and Cara has seen so much tragedy, but hasn’t lost her humanity. Tyler is a great hero, strong and confident, yet vulnerable and sensitive in his own way. Both characters seemed very realistic and true to life for me, because in spite of their professions they were very human and had deep seated emotions. This book is full of action, adventure, and of course, romance. The loving between these two is hawt! The suspense kept me turning pages late into the night because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. I also enjoyed reading more about Rin, Cara’s daughter, and Luck, both from the previous book, Versions. The plot was interesting and original. The length was just right, not too drawn out, but not rushed either.
This can be read as a standalone, but I’m looking forward to reading Variations, Marina and Oliver’s story, and hope I can read more about Cara and her family, and a new direction for Tyler’s career. All in all, as with every book of Ms. Mitcham’s I have read, I truly enjoyed Virtues, and highly recommend it. It’s a must read for romantic suspense fans.
I received an ARC of this title for an honest review.

it was amazing

I really felt for Cara, she has spent most of her life running and hiding from a Russian gang, she was forced to marry the boss and managed to flee when she found out she was pregnant and the CIA after she was betrayed. Her life since has been spent training, killing (when needed to survive) and helping Luck so he could keep watch for her daughter and keep her safe. Wow! another roller coaster of action, suspense and excitement. Violence is graphic, but with Tyler taking a liking to Cara and watching out for her that side of things is almost sweet. But it takes a lot of convincing to get Cara's trust or even for her to admit liking him, I loved Tyler and his unfailing persistence. This story picks up from the end of the last book but takes it up from Cara and Tyler's point of view, it leads us into the next book about Marina and highlighting Oliver and Hunter from Base Branch. I cant believe that I am almost through this great series and will miss it once finished

This is a intriguing and interesting book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this book is drama, suspense, intrigue, adventure, some humor, danger, enemies, a protective mother (Cara Lee), Cara's Daughter (Lin), the boyfriend (Luke), a underground meeting, offered a job with Base Branch, a chance at freedom, meeting Tyler, intrigued by Cara, attractions, the perfect gift, Tyler and Merina abducted, tortured, going to the barn, shot, shooting Markus, trying to releasing Tyler, collapsing, help arriving, hospital, waking up, declarations of love, emotional feelings and mild erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and is exceptionally well written. The characters are well developed with personalities and have feelings of lust, needs and desires. I would recommend this book to people that like to read a good Base Branch novel with some excellent romance in, you will not be disappointed.

Cara's story unraveling from last book. Cara, an spy marked as traitor, comes out of her hiding to save her daughter's life. Rin, Luck and her get to Base Branch and don't know what to make of it. Cara meets with the director and her life has a new opportunity to change for good if she accepts the director's offer. She has to make up her mind while struggling with her regrets and the danger that her closeness brings to her family. While she is static for Rin and Luck's relationship she can't come to terms with hers. Tyler comes in sweeping her with his cowboy looks and charming personality but she still is not sure about him or anyone. Enemies attack and Cara has to save her loved ones yet again. There is so much suspense, action and sexual tension in this book that you have to keep reading until you find out what's the outcome. I loved it.
I was given this book for an honest and unbiased review.

I received this book free from the author to read and leave an honest review. I also purchased the book for my own since I already had read Versions, the previous book, and enjoyed it. This book picks up where Versions left off, but can be read as a stand-alone. Cara is a mother who just wants to protect her daughter. Tyler is a huge bull of a man who just wants Cara. This book has suspense, action, romance, and so many twists and turns, you'll be glue to your seat. Megan Mitcham gives you a clear, well-written story with characters that dare your imagination to root for them, and makes you want to get in there and help them out. There is also a good lead-in to the next book in the series. I definitely recommend this book. There is more than enough action and romance to keep anyone satisfied.

The thrilling roller coaster ride of suspense and adventure continues on with the reunion of Cara with her daughter, Rin and her boyfriend, Luke. Cara is trying to tie up loose ends while evading a host of enemies. Tyler is a highly skilled agent of Base Branch, a unit of the UN Special Forces. He has been tasked to finding the elusive Cara and bringing her in to Base Branch Headquarters. While dodging enemies and struggling with regret over past decisions, she finds herself distracted by Tyler himself. It all comes to an exciting resolution when there is a showdown between enemies and agents. The author does an amazing job portraying the powerful, mixed emotions and the physical pain and sacrifice. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Four Stars.

All Cara has wanted to do is protect her daughter. Now out of hiding and back in her daughters life, Cara has to decide if she has the courage to face her future or run from her past.
Tyler has started to question whether he can continue along his current career path with Base Branch. Struggling with his conscience he meets Cara. Now he has another battle. Can he convince Cara to give him a chance??
Their story will have you on the edge of your seat, with intrigue, drama, revenge, HOT sex and fantastic humour. You will quickly fall in love with Cara and Tyler, both broken in their own ways, but together maybe they can heal.

could be read as a standalone, you should really have read the previous books to get the best from the series, but especially the previous one.
The story revolves around Cara and her doing everything in her power to protect her daughter. This is a fast pasted and intriguing story, that has you on the edge of you seat from the start , turning every page wishing for more. Wanting to know what's going to happen next. The story draws you in completely.... I didn't want it to end and Tyler.......well I'm not going to spoil this for anyone.
If you like Megan Mitchans suspense/romance writting you are going to be thrilled with this, the books just keep on getting better. I can't wait for the next book

After hearing some about Rin's mom in the previous book getting to see the world through Cara's eyes is nice. Adding in a bit of romance with a sexy younger man makes this story quite yummy. I love getting to read about a full grown mother and hearing her story. To me its amazing to read about how even when someone is "past their prime" they still do so many different and awesome things. I believe with age people actually get better and that there is no such thing as a prime of your life because you are always growing and getting better and doing things that you haven't done before or proving yourself wrong on what you can and can't do. This book just proves that you can never be told old for something.

received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, and as well I did buy the e-book! I thought that this book was awesome and just as good as book 7- Versions. I am hooked on this series and plan to read the rest. The road to redemption and love is never easy and that certainly applies to the main characters in this book Cara and Tyler, especially to Cara Lee who had to fake her own death to protect the one person in the world she loves and would die for. But, then she meets Tyler Grace, and soon, and against her instincts, she falls in love with him and now has someone else worth loving and living for!! I really recommend reading this book and the series. Most worth of a five star rating!!!

Cara Lee ex-CIA agent, faked her death 17 years ago and has been hiding and running from her enemies, but once she realised her daughter, Rin, was in danger, she came out of her hiding. At their reunion, the Base Branch agents captured Cara Lee, Rin and Luck, Rin’s fiancé. Base Branch offers Cara her freedom and a position as a Base Branch agent, but she declines. Tyler Grace, Base Branch agent, is tasked to keep an eye on Cara to make sure she does not disappear again, but he does more than keep an eye on her. The story captivates the reader from the first to last page. It is full of action and I love the characters, not to mention the romance. The reader definitely wants to continue the journey of the two main characters, Cara and Tyler. Loved the story!

This is the 8th book in the Base Branch series and my 2nd book. I previously read #7 prior to this.

Megan Mitcham does a great job of combining adventure with a splash of romance and hot/steamy scenes mixed in. Wonderful writing and storyline. I cannot wait to go back and read the other books in the series to catch some of the back story of the other characters woven in. You do not need to read the other books to enjoy this one, however, they are an added bonus - if you can.
