THANKS to Looking Back readers for getting in touch with us after we featured a photo of Arthur Knight visiting Eldridge Pope brewery in Dorchester.

James Old identified the man on the right as Christopher Pope.

He said: "Sadly he passed away some time ago.

"I used to go to school with his son Oliver.

"The gentleman to the left of Arthur looks familiar but I cannot name him."

Thanks also to Tim Toogood for identifying the man on the right as Christopher Pope, MD of Eldridge Pope.

Alex Scrivener, editor of the Giant Dongle, said Denis Holliday MBE, head brewer of Eldridge Pope, is much missed after he passed away in June.

"West Dorset CAMRA were planning a 100th birthday party for Denis (at The Blue Raddle) when we heard of Denis's demise - in the evening of June 2, after he'd had a couple of pints at the Raddle at lunchtime.

"What a way to go!? He was a gentleman - and one who, in his 90s, liked to take 'the old folk' from local residential homes out for lunch."

"We plan to organise a pub crawl (not a phrase that describes the event adequately) of as many local ex-Eldridge Pope pubs as we can identify on (or as close to as possible) what would have been Denis's 100th birthday on January 4 2017. May he rest in peace."
