T-Mobile Updates Details About Its New Unlimited Plan, Which Is Now More Confusing

Earlier this month, T-Mobile announced a new unlimited plan that came with the caveat that speed and quality would get capped to prevent HD quality and hotspot speeds were cut significantly. Now, T-Mobile’s clarified some things, changed some speeds, and added a new, more confusing detail.

The new unlimited plan will still throttle your video quality at 480p, but now tethering hotspot data will now be 3G speeds as opposed to 2G. It will still cost $70/month for the first line.

The initial unlimited plan came with an “HD add-on” where you could pay an extra $25/month to get HD video. Now, they’ve replaced that with two separate plans: the T-Mobile ONE Plus plan, and T-Mobile ONE HD Day Passes. The day pass allows you to unlock HD speeds for 24 hours for $3. The T-Mobile ONE Plus plan is still $25/month and grants you unlimited HD Day Passes. We assume this means that you’ll need to go through the process of initializing a day pass every 24 hours in order to use it. Tethering hot spots also get a boost to 4G speeds.

The plans will be available on September 1st.
