TV Article Phantasm: Remastered poster — The Tall Man gets a grip By Clark Collis Clark Collis Senior Writer EW's editorial guidelines Published on August 31, 2016 10:40PM EDT Writer-director Don Coscarelli’s 1979 film Phantasm has proven hugely influential on younger filmmakers, from J.J. Abrams, who named the Star Wars: The Force Awakens character Captain Phasma after the movie, to Jackson Stewart, who recently told EW that his upcoming terror tale Beyond the Gates was partly inspired by Coscarelli’s cult classic. This nightmare tale of a teenager’s battle with a terrifying “Tall Man” and his drill-equipped flying spheres has now been restored by the Coscarelli and Abrams’ Bad Robot company and returns to cinemas on Sept. 24 as part of the inaugural Art House Theater Day. Phantasm: Remastered will then be released on cable and digital platforms on Oct. 7, the same day that the latest entry in the franchise, Phantasm: Ravager, arrives in theaters and on Digital HD.
