UFC On Fox 21 Results: Fight Night Bonuses and Highlights From Condit vs. Maia Card

This article is more than 7 years old.

Demian Maia's style may not be the most appealing to casual fans, but all he does is win lately, and that can't be dismissed.

On Saturday night in Vancouver in the main event of UFC on Fox 21, Maia made quick work of Carlos Condit.

Maia's superb Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills were on display as he submitted the former interim champ with a rear-naked choke in the first round. This was Maia's sixth straight win, and to be frank, he made it look easy.

Early in the first round he secured the takedown. He gradually transitioned to take Condit's back and locked in the choke until he induced the tap out. Here's a look at the finish:

To have finished an opponent of Condit's ilk with such ease made Maia's performance worthy of one of the Fight Night Bonuses. Maia said during his post-fight interview that he would wait for the winner of the Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson bout championship bout.

There's no question the 38-year-old Brazilian has earned a shot at the gold. Here's a look at all of the results from the card. The fights that produced bonuses are marked with an (*) asterisk.

Main Card

  • Demian Maia def. Carlos Condit via first-round submission (rear-naked choke)* (Performance of the Night)
  • Anthony Pettis def. Charles Oliveira via third-round submission (guillotine)
  • Paige VanZant def. Bec Rawlings via second-round KO* (Performance of the Night)
  • Jim Miller def. Joe Lauzon via split decision (29-28x2, 28-29)* (Fight of the Night)

Undercard

  • Sam Alvey def. Kevin Casey via second-round TKO
  • Kyle Bochniak def. Enrique Barzola via split decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29)
  • Alessio Di Chirico def. Garreth McLellan via unanimous decision (29-28x3)
  • Felipe Silva def. Shane Campbell via first-round TKO
  • Chad Laprise def. Thibault Gouti via first-round TKO
  • Jeremy Kennedy def. Alex Ricci via unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 29-28)

VanZant is Magnetic

Aside from her dancing skills that earned her runner-up on Dancing With the Stars and her movie star looks, Paige VanZant is a dynamic fighter.

On Saturday, she produced the card's biggest "wow" moment when she destroyed Bec Rawlings with a jumping switch kick in the second round.

It was VanZant's fourth win in five UFC fights and a solid rebound from a tough loss to Rose Namajunas in December 2015. VanZant is still just 22 years old, so she'll continue to improve.

If she does, the sky is the limit for her as it pertains to stardom.

Miller and Lauzon Duel Again

In a rematch of an epic 2012 bout, Jim Miller again bested Joe Lauzon in Saturday's Fight of the Night. Miller got the nod on a split decision, but the fight was very close.

Miller appeared to do the better work during stand-up exchanges, but it was Lauzon who secured a takedown in each of the three rounds. Miller held an 80-54 edge in significant strikes landed, per FightMetric, and that was enough to give him the advantage on two of the three judges cards.

Will these two have a third fight? Miller said no during his post-fight interview.

That's unfortunate because most fans would welcome another three-round battle between these two veterans.
