When last we tuned into ABC‘s Once Upon a Time, Mr. Hyde — through a deal with Rumplestiltskin — had laid claim to Storybrooke, so that those from the Land of Untold Stories could relocate to the Maine burg.
But what exactly is an Untold Story, other than one that didn’t merit inclusion in the first volume of Henry’s storybook?
“It is a story that has yet to play out,” Once co-creator Eddy Kitsis told TVLine as part of our Fall Preview Q&A. “You’re going to see that a lot of people went to the Land of Untold Stories because they wanted to literally push ‘pause,’ like they were watching their own life on TiVo.”
So whereas Season 1 explored what happened after the fairytales people know and love came to a close, “This is a tweak on that idea,” says co-creator Adam Horowitz. “What happens to some of these stories if they don’t quite finish the way we thought they did, and were suspended midstream? And what would make characters want to suspend their stories?”
For some, Kitsis says, the reasons include “fear, not wanting to face something.” Yet now that Hyde has deposited them in Storybrooke, that “pause” button is poised to come undone — whether they like it or not.
In the latter scenario, “What you’ll be seeing is our characters wanting to help,” says Kitsis. “And we see Emma back in the position where she’s a Savior trying to to help people find their happiness” — while she also processes the realization that there have been other Saviors, Agrabah street rat Aladdin included, before her.
All told, Kitsis promises a back-to-basics return to the Storybrooke-based tone of Season 1. “It’s really Emma and the Yellow Bug, riding around helping people,” he previews, “which is what we wanted to come back to this year.”
Once Upon a Time Season 6 premiers Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8/7, where it will lead into Season 2 of Secrets and Lies.

I hope while Emma is trying to help all those Untold Story folks get their happy endings and dealing with not being the only savior that she will at same time also work on her happy ending to and not just push it to the side to help the others. She needs to include herself in the happy endings to.
…She got her boring pirate back. She has her happy ending. So idk what else you expect…
She got her true love back after the darkness and death. (and he is not boring LOL) I am still interested in Emma Swan and her journey as many others,. And also her family and her relationship with them, and her true loves – Hook and Henry. Thank you.
Val, you forgot the Charmings baby Neal and Baelfire. They are her true loves as well. But not all of them who are still alive might make it you know. Be forewarned.
its kinda funny that you disagree on every comment hook is in
Yeah it’s called being a troll. Lol
Really not expecting much at all, not after having high expectations of last season and realizing that was a mistake!
Hooray now all they have to do in this reset is get rid of the pirate and I will be happy
What are you crazy love Captain Hook I’m hoping that Hook and Emma will stay together and I would like Regina’s to find love again and keep it this time
Yep. If the writers intended for the GA/non CSers to hate Hook in S5, then they did a bloody good job of it.
This pirate is the main reason I am still watching OUAT.
SAME.
Hook is not going anywhere. He is here to stay. He and Emma are True Love like it or not. Don’t like it then stop watching.
Not a real answer man. And you don’t know that. So stop acting like you know what will happen because you don’t know a thing about what might happen. And you know it. That makes you a liar.
Dial it down a notch, please.
I think that’s a real answer. And that doesn’t make him a liar if he says things he didn’t know will happen. Its just like indicating on what MIGHT happen based on what the writers and the show are presenting us
Emma and Hook are True Loves. Its pretty obvious for seasons now and confirmed in season 5.
You know that is exactly what many stooges said about Regina and Robin. And yet Robin dies. And the same thing might happen to Emma’s second man. And if something does happen, get over it, move on and grow up.
Robin is not confirmed as Regina’s true love unlike Emma and Hook. All we know about Robin is that he is Regina’s soulmate.
People can have more than one True Love. It’s established.
Marco, i think its not what she(or he, whatever) meant. I think what gigy meant is that the show hasnt proven that regina and robin are true love
Makes me think of a folk song: If wishes were fishes, I know where I’d be,
Casting my net in the dark rolling sea;
And if my net’s empty when it comes back to shore,
I’ll throw it away and go fishing no more.
In short…unfortunately it’s time to put the net away because as much as the GA and fandom wish Hook and CS focus was going, he isn’t going anywhere and Emma can’t do anything alone, there is no Emma only Hemma.
I like the idea of them going back to the start in terms of how they develop this arc, but so many characters are unlikeable now. Hoping they finally stop pushing Rumbelle down our throats and just let Belle be her own person – without the man who hurt her so many times before.
YES! I can’t support that relationship after he’s betrayed her so many times. Belle deserves better. I can’t stand to watch her agonize over Rumple.
This sounds terrible. And boring.
Well, good news–don’t watch it! Simply can’t understand the constant whining with “it sounds terrible and boring” comments. Is someone holding you captive, forcing you to watch something you so obviously hate? Are you unable to figure out how to change channels? SMDH
People did stop watching live, that’s why the ratings were nearly fractional last season.
Finally, a bit of info about Emma herself! She’s the reason I put up with the rest of the show, and to be honest all the Regina promo was (and still is; this is just one thing) making me want to give up on the show. It’s really gone downhill since they started insisting that she’s “good” now without having her show any remorse or apologize to anyone. And it’s ruining the other characters too–Emma and Henry aren’t allowed to stand up to her anymore, and with Snow it’s so bad that she’s hardly recognizable at this point; she’s little more than Regina’s cheerleader.
Agree with everything you said.I am Not looking forward to regina show.I feel like I already know about her way more than I need to.
I agree. Lana’s a great actress but Regina’s storyline doesn’t interest me any more. I like her in small doses, not as the center of attention.
Bless you for the Emma scoop…I feel like it’s been 800 years
Sounds great! The only good thing about the next season. Love the thought of Emma going around helping people. I just hope she realizes how much everyone around her use her to fix their own problems though.
It sounds a lot like a variation on the “unfinished business” plot device from last season’s Underworld arc.
This show is about Emma’s journey and I really want to see her continue to grow. Sick of Regina and her whining and like someone else said that no one can stand up to her. I love Hook and Emma as a couple and definitely hope to see them continue to grow as well. This is not Regina’s show and I really hope that we are not going to be saddled with the story of the two Regina’s for the whole season.
I think we are getting the 2 Regina thing all season. I have a hard enough time dealing with one of her. I want to see CS grow as a couple to but wonder how much we actually will since we didn’t even get a tease here that amongst the savior thing and helping others that she’d be working on her own happy ending as well. I don’t want her pushing her happiness to the side which is almost looking like what will happen.
Relationship to grow? Funny, they were doing the same thing to Regina and Robin in the last two season and then it all went down the drain. The same thing might happen to the other couple. Have you noticed they’re parallelysing Emma and Regina’s story? And what we saw recently on Regina losing Robin might happen to Emma be forewarned.
I think they won’t kill him off because, he’s died 3 times! It will just sound unoriginal and repetitive. And there’s an arc dedicated in saving him so if he dies(again), the whole underworld arc would be thrown off. Just an opinion.
I always thought the show was an ensemble show that just happened to start with one character- Emma. I never saw it as her journey, but all of their journeys upon their memories being returned. I guess which characters folks like & which they don’t really comes in to play but, wow, what you said about Regina is exactly how I feel about Emma. Five long, long years of her near constant whining about her many, many issues is long enough. And growth? What growth? They gave Emma everything she’s ever wanted & stripped away all of her issues. But apparently all the character has to bring to the plot are her issues – they dismantled her walls & give her armor. And she keeps making the same mistakes over & over. Moreover, everyone gives Regina a hard time. Everyone doubts her. Few have consistent faith or trust in her. But Emma – zero accountability for any of her actions. No one stands up to her. And if they do it doesn’t stick & they somehow apologize. After season 5 and even the slightest chance that S6 will center around Emma, again, is enough to make me a former fan. I miss when the show was about ALL of the characters. I miss Once Upon a Time. The Emma Swan Show is awful. Love Hook! But because of Emma I’m just not invested in the characters anymore – individually or as a couple. It’s just not possible to care any less. And that sucks. I used to live this show.
Emma has been my favourite since the start. She now has her family, her parent and her son and her partner Killian (true love) she is not alone to bring back the happy endings. She has ppl around her.
I look forward to what we found out about the savior mythology and the untold stories. Emma/Hook relationship journey in season 6 and Emma with her parents and Henry.
Yes!
Emma or Hooks BF because there was no such rubbishy focus on CS in Season 1. Also someone who can’t help themselves should focus on that instead of deflecting and trying to help everyone else.
Her mission should be making cute babies with hook. They are so adorable together.
Even with the odd rubbish storyline and let’s face it, there have been a few, I for one am excited ahead of year six. Much like with Bones, the longer it goes on, the more you want to tune in, not just for the story but also for the ensemble and to just watch them perform and play off each other. Not that I don’t expect solid, in-depth storytelling because I do, but six years in, I am forgiving of the odd dud because I am ultimately, in it for the long haul.
This sounds like a lot more fun than everyone stuck in the underworld. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get involved in this show again but I’m really encouraged. “Back to basics” is the best way to revive a show when it’s been going further away from what we loved originally.
Emma can be on her own thats cool, however Can we PLEASE get rid of the stupid pirate. Hook is so NOT needed, no matter if he’s supposed to be her true love or not he’s boring. I say bring back Rumples son Neal so that Rumple has someone who will call him on his crap, someone that makes Rumple actually stop and think before he does something stupid. Rumple loves bell but he actually cares about what Neal thinks of him more then anyone else. Plus I think henry after everything he has been put through deserves to have his father in his life. I have been hoping that henrys combinded powers 1. True Believer and 2. Being the author could some how bring Neal back to life. Oh and I would love it if Robin came back to life too. Robin&Regina super cute and way better then emma and the nasty discusting pirate.
Well that’s how life works, even if you really want to get rid of someone you can’t. Deal with it.
All told, Kitsis promises a back-to-basics return to the Storybrooke-based tone of Season 1. “It’s really Emma and the Yellow Bug, riding around helping people,” he previews, “which is what we wanted to come back to this year.”
I guess much like their “lead” character, TPTB haven’t grown very much. And they haven’t quite realized 5 years in that Emma doesn’t really “help” all that much. To the contrary she generally, and fantastically, makes things 10x worse, with the entirety of the SB crew coming in to pull her a$$ out of yet another fire, saving everyone as a team. Sigh……I wish we could watch Once Upon a Time again. I really don’t like the Emma Swan Show.
