Abstract: AIM To analyse efficacy of gabapentin capsule in the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia and safety. METHODS A total of 160 patients with post-herpetic neuralgia who were treated during June,2012- June,2014 and the patients with post-herpetic neuralgia were randomly divided into 2 groups. Two groups were given conventional therapy, while the control group was plus administration of carbamazepine, the treatment group was plus administration of gabapentin capsule, and the clinical therapeutic effect and adverse drug reactions were compared between 2 groups. RESULTS Visual analogue scale after treatment in both groups showed a trend of gradual downward( P < 0. 05),the degree of treatment group decreased more significantly than that of control group( P <0. 05); significant efficiency and total effective rate in treatment group were 77. 50%,97. 50%,significantly higher than those in control group 50. 00%,77. 50%( P < 0. 05). PSQI in both groups showed a trend of gradual downward after treatment( P < 0. 05),treatment group decreased significantly than that of control group( P < 0. 05); the incidence of adverse drug reaction of treatment group( 17. 50%) was obviously lower than that of control group( 32. 5%)( P <0.05),and recovered with mild symptoms without special treatment. CONCLUSION Gabapentin has obvious therapeutic effect in treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia, and can obviously alleviate patients’ pain, promote sleep, with mild and low incidence of adverse drug reactions, and can be used as one of the first choice of clinical drugs.
