I was an avid reader of romance fiction before I was able to follow my dream of becoming a published author.

It took nearly thirty hard-knock years before beginning that journey. If not for them, however, I never would have known how to create the kind of raw, human, emotion I want my readers to feel during their journey into my world of contemporary, historical, and suspense romances.

You'll find my characters relatable, flawed, sometimes wounded and broken who eventually find what we all seek out of life ... a deep connection, being understood and accepted, and with an ever-lasting love grown from it all. I write about life and the lessons learned from its experiences and welcome you into my world. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and hopefully be inspired in some small way.

Have a blessed day & hugs from me to you.icons located at the bottom of my w

Unchained Melody is the first book in the Love Song Standards series. This series grabbed my attention from the get-go: a series of books named after famous romance songs – of course, I was happy to read. In all honesty, can any romance fan deny such a gripping notion? The only downside this that there isn’t a book for every romance song in the world. Of course, such a thing is impossible, but it doesn’t lessen how wonderful the notion is. Thus, I was happy to jump into the first book – now, after finishing, I wish to jump into the rest of the books in the series.

I’m going to be completely honest, though, this book isn’t quite a full four star rating. It was a very enjoyable read, yes, but there were some things that prevented me from loving it quite the way I wanted to. These things, though, are a personal view, and I’m sure some of these things will be overlooked by other people. Moreover, these are things that could very well be different with the other books in the series, hence why I’m still eager to give them a read. Nevertheless, I thought I should point out that this wasn’t quite the full four star rating I gave it – close enough to round up instead of rounding down, but still worth pointing out.

Unchained Melody starts with a bang. We’re instantly thrown into the action, curious as to how things will play out. I always enjoy it when stories start with our characters come together in the manner that these characters did, with a drastic event pulling them together and creating some kind of bond between the two of them. It’s a lot of fun, and sets up so many possibilities for where things could go from there. With some kind of connection already in place, it is wonderful to watch as feelings transform into true love.

The events that follow the big bang at the start of the story were a lot of fun, although I feel as though they weren’t quite as developed as they could have been. A lot of things happened, and the level of depth across the events was somewhat unequal. Some events seemed to be given less attention than they should have been, and it saddened me that we lost the real emotional factor that some of the events could have had. I think, in part, this is because so much happened in such a short story. We focus upon the events happening and overlook some of the emotional backlash.

When we do get the emotional backlash, though, it is a thing of beauty. The end of the book, in particular, hit the spot with the emotional backlash. It was a bit on the predictable side, yes, but it was thoroughly enjoyable to watch things come together. I just wish the entire book had been given the same level of emotional depth. I love action, yes, but it starts to dull when the aftereffects are glossed over somewhat. This is especially true of romance: if anything, the emotion needs to overpower the action. You need to really feel all that is happening, and I didn’t always feel this way. When I was feeling something it was amazing, but these feelings were not as consistent as they could have been.

As a whole, though, I did really enjoy the story. It gripped me from the start, and I found it extremely difficult to put down. It was one of those stories that you needed to finish, you need to see exactly how things played out. Once it had a hold of you, you are completely pulled into the world with there being no chance of escape.

I will say, however, that there were a few things that needed to be caught in editing that pulled you out of the story. It wasn’t happening regularly, but there were a couple that pull you out of the story if such a thing does distract you. I just think people should be aware of this, as I know it does distract some people quite a bit.

Overall, it was a great start to the series and I’m excited to see what comes next.

As a final note, I would like to thank the author for contacting me for a review – it’s certainly left me wanting more.

Unchained Melody by Cynthia Roberts is the first book in the Love Song Standards series. The book is a cozy, warm romance so beautifully woven that it is sure to melt hearts.

Pamela Landers is a highly successful partner in a law firm. But what she possesses materialistically, she lacks emotionally. She is more than ready to find someone and settle down. Pamela is on her way to a well deserved weekend getaway at the Sugar Run when she runs into Gavin Templeton, the owner of the resort. Both are instantly drawn to each other and feel a connection going on and that multiplies many folds when Pamela is the one who saves Gavin's life after an accident. They get involved and Pamela discovers that Gavin has got it all, the loving family that she always craved for. Everything seems to be working for them when an ugly accident veers their lives off the perfect path.

I really liked this book. It is quick, gives you the warm feeling and also has some teary moments. It is a complete romance, I would say. The story is short and sweet. The narrative is so absorbing that I finished the book in a few hours. The writing style is commendable, didn't allow me to put the book down. With perfectly rounded characters and a well thought out plot, this book is a joy to read.

What I loved about the story was that the emotions and feelings Pamela and Gavin have for each other are so honest. Even Gavin's family members come off as regular, lovable people, so easy to relate to. I do like some emotional moments in a romance, and Unchained Melody definitely has a few. I loved the farm background and the perfect description of the house there, so cozy.

Overall, a quick romantic read that will remain in your heart for a long time.

This is a life like romance with a bit of suspense thrown in. Let me tell you, I was biting my nails and sitting on the edge of my seat... literally!

The book flows well, but I have to admit I had reservations about Gavin. Maybe because he was so secretive, it did not endear him to me. I understood his reasons for secrecy later, but by then he was not my favorite character.

I have been wondering about the title... does it pertain to the song by the same name?

This is the first book that I read by this author. I was intrigued from the first page. I will be reading more of her books.

I received this book for free from Instafreebie.

Unchained Melody, (Love Song Standards 1), Cynthia Roberts

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance

If you like quick, light, easy to read romances this will appeal. I like mine to have a little more depth though, more intense drama. There was drama here, but apart from the major events at the end it felt quite superficial.
The end events were perfect for me, I love angst that's drawn out, let me really feel upset for the characters and that lifts the story overall for me from a two and a half to a three and a half.
Romance is a pretty broad genre though, and there are loads of bestsellers, books that others adore that just don't work for me, so my feelings on this are a personal level and if you enjoy the lighter romances this could be perfect for you, even though its not a great one for me.

I felt Gavin and to a degree Pamela were quite reserved, didn't really trust the other and like Pamela I would find Gavin's secrecy hard to take. There didn't really seem the need for so much of it, it would have ticked me off!!
I felt a push/pull between the two but didn't really feel the romance, the love somehow. Its certainly an action packed story though with not just that first accident, but a major family issue for Gavin, and then more drama that proves hard for the couple. Somehow though I think if I was Pamela I'd have said “enough”, I didn't really feel she was that in love, that committed to him for the actions she did. ( of course that would have ended the book so....its why I read and don't write!) I did like Gavin's family and would have liked a little more of the day to day events and interactions with them, and maybe to have seen things from his POV. I always like dual POV, lets me get an insight into what characters think, feel, and their motives.
I commented originally on the many grammar errors, but Cynthia has been very quick to clean them up and they no longer exist, so I've edited my review to reflect that. (Thanks Cynthia for listening) Authors rely on editors, sadly not all are good and Cynthia's editor missed many very basic mistakes, including a major characters position in the family. Things like that let authors down, and give all editors a bad name. Given they're not cheap then authors have a right to expect a good job to be done.
I thought there was another name slip when Pamela's boss' secretary is also called Pamela, but that was her name, could have been better if it was different, less likely to confuse reader.

Stars: Three and a half. The story itself wasn't quite what I look for, its a cute romance with good drama at the end but overall a little too light for me.

[I have received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review this has in no way out of my opinion]

A quick an easy read, this book will keep you going till the very end, with a plot that gradually increases and characters that are easy to like.

In an attempt to have some days away from work, Pamela meets Gavin and if the instant attraction wasn't enough, Gavin has a car accident and she is the one saving his life. Here starts a rollercoaster of emotions and life altering events that will put their feelings to test.

From writing perspective, we have only Pamela’s views and we see their turmoil more from her side. We are not offered any more of Gavin’s opinions more than he is comfortable sharing. The plot evolves gradually to a major event that will change their lives. There are some scenes that were not at all believable though, especially one particular sex episode, but other than that all looks just fine.

Now, regarding the characters, I have several complaints but as well several appreciations. On one hand, I like that both characters have the same good financial position - she is a very well-known lawyer with a nice income, he's co-owner of several businesses. Even if the attraction is obvious, they start to bond when Pamela saves Gavin's life. Both represent some form of a new beginning. Pamela wishes for a family; Gavin wants to share his heart with someone. The internal battle that Pamela has to face at some point is very well presented. Her will and determination are as well inspiring.

On the other hand, each character has a moment of immaturity. They have several arguments, mainly due to silly misunderstandings. I believe these reactions were exaggerated and did not sit well with their personalities.

I'm struggling a little with the rating. My score would be 3.5 stars, but if I have to around it, I will offer 4 stars, but I hope the other books in the series have more attention to details and to the characters’ personalities. The writing was great; the way the plot evolved was great, but it definitely could have been better. Looking forward for the other books as well!

When I first seen the title of this book it immediately made me think of the song "Unchained Melodies" by the Righteous Brothers! That is one of my all time favorite songs that my mother used to sing to me as a child! I knew immediately I had to read the book solely on that principal! I had no idea what it was about but I said, "sign me up!".

I was not disappointed in the least! Once I received the copy of this book I was in love with the front page graphics and was excited to dig in once reading the synopsis. Love stories are my Achilles heel, I can't say no to them! :) If you love them too, you should go check this book out!

We open with a headstrong, powerful woman that you can't help but adore! She is successful and thriving at life, but what she really wants deep down is a family and a man to call her own. Will she find what she craves the most?!?! Go find out for yourself! It is an amazing book!

It's funny how life has a way of giving you what you want when you least expect it and the author portrays that throughout the story. She shows the ups and downs that life can throw at us and she gives us characters that we can all relate to. This book will have you laughing, crying and hanging on to your seat as the story unfolds into a beautiful happy ending.

This is the first book in the Love Song Standards series and also the first book I have read from this author and I truly enjoyed every page of it! I can not wait to dive into the second book in this series!

This book will melt your heart!

I would recommend this book as it is a very good read. It’s a bit slow to start but once you get into it, it takes off. It’s a love story that will have your heart going out to the characters.

Pamela Landers is a very determined, smart, hard-working woman who strides to do her best in the workplace. However, her love life is a non-existing which is not happy with until she meets Gavin Templeton.

Once she meets Gavin her heart starts to race and she can’t help were her imagination goes with the thoughts of the both of them. When she meets Gavin and he asks her to sit with him at his table in the diner she can’t help but look into the Amber coloured eyes and be taken away by them. His eyes are her weakness throughout the book.

Gavin Templeton is a handsome, smart, hard-working, family comes first kind of guy. When he meets Pamela he can’t help himself but be the knight in shining armor and come to her rescue. It was at the diner that he wanted to get to know her and know everything about her.

Would Fate be so cruel to take them away from each other after bringing them together?

I loved this book and I could not put in down, once you start it you can’t stop reading it as is a roller coaster ride of emotions.

*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review*
This is the story of Pamela Landers who decides she needs a vacation and goes on a skiing trip, while at the diner there are no tables available and she gets called over to sit with sexy Gavin Templeton who owns the resort she is attending but when she sits down he gets a call and has to leave.
While driving on the snowy roads to the resort she sees Gavin’s car ahead but there is a car coming the other way out of control and hits his car sending it over the Cliffside. Pam is beside her self and goes to help Gavin from the car, which ends with them both being in hospital due to hyperthermia.
Pam thought there was something there but when she doesn’t see Gavin after waking up and then having to go home she is upset until he turns up at her door.
Here we see the growing attraction between the two but there are secrets to be uncovered.
I really enjoyed this book it was fun and at times frustrating too but I was happy with the way the two characters grew.

Headline: I have voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC version of Unchanged Melody by Cynthia Roberts.
This was a wonderful book by Cynthia Roberts. I fell in love with all the characters so deeply. Not only Gavin and Pamela but their familys as well. Their story was heartbreaking, uplifting. Pretty much everything one would want out of any well written romance. I applaud Cynthia for this book. Very well done. I look forward to reading more of your books in the future. Happy reading!

A quick read, good for when you want a love story, but don't have the time to invest in a more in-depth novel. Unfortunately, that means the characters aren't as in-depth as I would have liked, and the story has a shaky start when the meeting between Pamela and Gavin is too brief without enough pull to support the love or attraction between them later on. Technically well written, but story could use more development.

Contemporary romance novels I've found are challenging for me as a reader. I'm not sure what it is because I love romance books, but sometimes I really struggle with them.
When I first started reading this book, I thought it would be like a sweet hallmark Christmas-type romance. But then things quite literally took a turn for the characters, and it was a roller coaster of emotions from there, from romance to betrayal, from a happy family to not speaking, this book ranged all over.
Overall, I enjoyed it, and I think fans of contemporary romance will eat this book up.

A truly captivating story and page turner. When Pamela witnessed Gavin's accident, I felt I was right there. Her struggle over trying to save him was so real and I felt her strife, apprehension, and fear. And, I have to admit, their love scenes were really hot, yet tastefully written. Great job! I'm hooked and can't wait to read the other five.

This was my first book from this author. The story premise was a pretty god one. I loved how the female lead was a string women who saved the day and also saved Gavin from an untimely death.

Like I said, the premise was good, the story was good, enjoyable.

Falling in love with someone could be so easy, as Pamela Landers demonstrated. The story started with a heartstopping event that had my mind play out different scenarios. It even had me imagining the movie Ghost. Well, things took a different turn.

The characters could have been developed more. Sometimes, I see them as shallow individuals. And in the world of Pamela and Gavin, everyone seemed attractive. That's how the author described even the supporting characters.

The love story was fast-paced that it's seemingly built on superficial grounds like hot s*x. The latter part caused my eyes to leak, though. It was emotional and heartfelt. I also hoped that the song Unchained Melody gained a more favorable interpretation in the book.

I would recommend this to anyone raring to read a quick love story.

I got stalled out (by life, not the book). Finally had the opportunity to get back to it & finish.
Kudos to Cynthia for another wonderful book, filled with characters of strength and compassion.
The willingness of Gavin to reach out to Pamela after the time had passed...Just what every woman wants. And the ability to work where she wants without the constraints of the traditional lifestyle.

I got this from the author for joining her newsletter. I love the name of the book and remember listening to this song on the radio. This is a about a woman named Paula who has everything that she wants. Great job, fancy car, and condo. What she does not have is love and romance. She goes on a much-needed vacation to go ski. She goes to the lodge to have breakfast only there are no tables left. Gavin offers to share his table with her. Only he gets called away on business and offers to meet her later. Then she witness his car going of the road. She is worried about him and if he is okay. She does not know why she feels so strongly about him just after meeting. Will they get passed all the secrets and be able to be together?

I was provided a copy of this book in return for an honest review; this is the second book i have read from the author, the other being A Pawn for a Malce, which I really liked. This book is a nice sweet romance, and a different style of writing than the previous book I read. Unchained Melody is clearly written and easy to read, the author has a really good way of making her writing come alive, the visual and emotional imagery the book displays are very real life somehow" A pleasure to read".

Omg Unchained Melody is the very first book the this series and let me say that you will not be disappointed! The main character Pamela has what every girl dreams of: the job, amazing house and gorgeous car. However she doesn't have love until she meets Gavin. Unchained Melody brings you romance and heartache but most of all love. This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat until you finish the last page. I don't want to give anything away but I will tell you this: the book is Definitely a MUST read!!!! You will not be disappointed!!!

First of all, let me just say that I love every single book in this series. (Seriously. Just trust me. Get the whole series.)

With that said, I absolutely adore this book. I will be the first to tell anyone that I am not a real fan of romance novels. Cynthia Roberts, however, is not your average romance author. Her characters are relatable and deeply developed, completely enjoyable to "get to know." Her plots are fun, emotional, heart-wrenching and engrossing.

In "Unchained Melody," Pamela has it all; the awesome career, the beautiful home, the expensive car. What she doesn't have, however, is someone to share her life with. The book opens with her deciding to get away, to have some time for herself, to chase a little adventure. What she doesn't expect is her run-in with the handsome stranger, nor the incredible journey that follows. What I didn't expect was my inability to put the book down. Even as I write this, I am sad that I am done with Pamela and Gavin's story, and can only wonder at what the rest of their journey might hold.

To say that I recommend this book is an understatement. Grab some hot tea, a cozy blanket and dive right in.

This was a captivating story. I loved the little bit of suspense you added right from the very beginning. I could not put my tablet down. The way their relationship evolved seemed natural, like it would in real life. And despite the complication you built between them, it turned out beautifully in the end. I love the whole concept of this series ... titled after famous love songs and when I saw this one was named after the Everly Brothers 'Unchained Melody', I just had to read it. Can't wait to read the others.

Unchained Melody is a short, sweet book about two people who seem destined to communicate no better than teenagers. They have an instant attraction when they meet in a restaurant. Immediately, he is called away and she watches as his car is involved in a horrific accident. Unable to stop herself, she rescues him, putting herself in danger.

Their relationship scrapes along with the occasional misunderstanding. When I say scrapes I am likening it to nails on a chalkboard. I found their miscommunications immature and aggravating. It also has the obligatory sex scenes. In one scene Pamela discovers Gavin likes to go commando, which makes her quiver with lust. All it made me think was the man was too slow to do his laundry. Another scene that gave me hope that the author was attempting to be humorous was when they were inclosed in the driver's glass cubicle of a tractor. Gavin drives it across the field, Pamela bouncing along in her glorious nudity as she rides him with abandon during the sexiest moment of her life.

After the first half of the book it gains momentum and there is quite a bit of action to go along with the inability to communicate. The other characters', all family members, extreme joy in one another is somewhat off-putting. No family is free of someone putting their fat foot inside their mouth at one time or another. These people have such loving, mellow personalities they barely exist.

I found this book to be for beginning romance enthusiasts: expected beautiful, successful woman meets a handsome, rich man. The author did a good job of incorporating some story on Pamela's job, but it was written with a sense of racing to the finish line, leaving this story feeling occasionally choppy. Our author is definitely talented, but the romance genre is a difficult one to write and there are so many that they tend to run together like a watercolor painting; hard to see where the good sections start, yet easy to see when it's straight-up bad all over.

The grading:

Genre and general reading age - Romance, of course, for adults and maybe older teens.
Level of sexuality - High, although this is less graphic than almost all other romance novels. It still made a valiant effort.
Is there graphic language? I was surprised by how contained it was. The most that I remember is someone giving the one-finger salute.
Did I cry? No.
Did I laugh? Yes. There was the memorable ride across the field.
Is this part of a series? Yes, the Love Song Standards Series.
Level of character development - None.

I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for effort.

UNCHAINED MELODY BY CYNTHIA ROBERTS:

In romance novel, Unchained Melody by author Cynthia Roberts, Pamela Landers, young up and coming attorney has it all. Wealthy, owns a high-priced condo, drives an expensive car and a career soon headed for partnership; so, what's missing? Ah, elusive love, husband, and children are missing from her life. Work has been her life up to the this point. On vacation in ski country, Pamela and fate will collide.

Meeting Gavin for the first time minutes before she see's his car go off the snowy road side cliff, Pamela, immediately knew she had to try to help him. Sit back, get comfortable, as fate will step in and perhaps unchain Pamela's heart in the form of handsome, wealthy, and secretive Gavin Templeton. My romance reviews of novel, Unchained Melody, follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Does love at first sight exist? Ask Pamela and Gavin, as they will definitely have an answer for you. In Unchained Melody, Roberts gives the reader the premise of attraction and love at first sight. Pamela's character has locked her heart away as she found men unreliable and several other very uncomplimentary traits. Focusing on her career, Roberts gave Pamela the chance to live for something other than a career and money. I found Pamela likeable and believable, as well as, her hesitations towards men realistic due to her career choice as a highly talented litigation attorney.

Including a touch of mystery in this romance novel, Roberts added secrecy to Gavin's personality. A little mystery to whet the appetite. What was he holding so close to his chest? Sorry, you will have to read the story. The reader will find misunderstandings, preconceptions, crisis, and trauma; Roberts created an entertaining book.

In concluding my reviews of romance novel, Unchained Melody, I found a fast paced story. Also, the plotting was smooth and steady; perfect for an afternoon of relaxing light reading. Although the book has two intense love scenes above the description of light lovemaking, I did not find them erotic or overly graphic. Nor did the scenes contain crude wording.

UNCHAINED MELODY RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4:

I would not hesitate to buy this book for my self or a friend. Suitable for young adults and adults who reads solid entertaining romances.

Finally, Please Note:

I received a free copy of this for an honest review.

I really liked the book. It started off so quickly and slowed down to pick right back off again at the end.

The story is about Gavin Templeton and Pamela Landers. He's from a rich family and she is a lawyer who specialises in wrongful deaths.

I loved the story but there are a few unanswered questions. I want to know what happens after the book. I hope Ms Roberts continues Gavin and Pamela's story.

I would read another book of hers.

It's not what I'd call a short story but it's not a novel either. So if you want something good to read and don't want a novel or a short story then this is the book for you.

It has some sex scenes. But they are small scenes. Don't get me wrong it's written well but it's not long enough to justify it being there. It's a blip on a radar. Sex scenes are hard to write.

This is a mixed review. I know that. There are some spelling/tense errors but I didn't mind them as the book was great. It just distracts you for a second.

Overall. Great book. But want more.
