Woe tedium, the Mueller report artistic readers

.

I was struck by Shadi Hamid’s tweet on Wednesday on the Mueller report artistic fashion. In my opinion, it encapsulates just why the Democratic Party lost in 2016 and the great risk they face if they keep up this line of attack in 2020.

As he notes:

Hamid asks, “What is wrong with people?”

These people are way too arrogant and far lacking in introspection. I get that Democrats, moderate and leftist, are not generally fans of the president. I get that many Democrats believe President Trump should presently be in prison rather than at a G-20 summit in Japan. I even get that President Trump doesn’t appear to be a particularly nice fellow. But come on, do we seriously expect most Americans to have anything but an eye roll in face of such posturing?

Of course not. The claim of a “public, nonpartisan 11-hour marathon reading” is only an opportunity to cry alongside fellow crybabies. It’s a pathetic wail into the wilderness.

But it’s also incredibly inartistic. This is political unoriginality masked under a thin guise of artistic flair. But the result is the same: the triumph of self-righteous delusion over that which gives Trump power, his ability to persuade a majority of the Electoral College that he is the least bad candidate on offer.

This tedious adventurism will only help ensure Trump finds his way to a second term.
