Lifetime wants a piece of Britney Spears.
The network has tapped Natasha Bassett (Rake) to play the Princess of Pop in a biopic simply titled Britney. The made-for-TV movie will document the many ups and downs of Spears’ career, including her high-profile relationship with Justin Timberlake, her multiple failed marriages and, of course, her infamous fall from grace. (In other words, brace yourselves for a super dramatic head-shaving montage.)
Here’s the film’s official description, per Lifetime:
Britney Jean Spears was just a young girl from Louisiana trying to make a name for herself in the music scene when her talent became undeniable to all those around her. While handlers soon began planning her every move, Britney found solace with fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake. Tragically, as Britney’s star continued to shine, her private life crumbled after the divorce of her parents and her tabloid breakup with Justin. Her personal behavior soon eclipsed her pop icon success as a quickie marriage to childhood friend and later, an ill-fated marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, became the talk of the world. With her life spiraling out of control, Britney hit rock bottom, lost custody of her sons and was placed under her father’s conservatorship. But despite her past troubles, Britney has battled back to rebuild her career to its former glory, proving to everyone that she’s a timeless force in entertainment.

Anne-Marie Hess (Perfect High) is writing the script, with Leslie Libman (NCIS, The Vampire Diaries) on board to direct. Britney, an Asylum Entertainment production, begins filming next month in Vancouver and is expected to premiere in 2017.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

She’s got the look but I haven’t seen anything she’s been in so I don’t know if she’ll pull it off. Most importantly though, I’m shocked Britney and her management team / family are OK with this.
Don’t get me wrong. I live for britney, I just hope this is done right and doesn’t fudge her legacy.
There actually said they were not supporting this projet
Is this an authorized bio pic? If they dont have the rights to her music this will be rather hard to put together.
Yasss! So here for this.
this is going to be such a hot mess… i can’t wait <3
WTF. How about waiting till after she is dead
I agree. What’s the point?
It seems a little soon for a Britney Lifetime biopic but I’m ALL IN!! Love her!
Because Lifetime has done such a great job on all those other biopics…
Because lifetime has done so well with anything that’s not a TV show…. Then again the cancelled witches of Eastend. Still mad about that one.
LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!
This!
