About the Author
Christine Hurley Deriso began writing children's stories after reading a story to her son's fourth grade class. Inspired by the students who cheered her on, Christine began writing an original story every week. This labor of love remains among her most fulfilling endeavors.
Christine, who presently serves as publications editor at the Medical College of Georgia, has written humorous essays and feature articles for many national publications, including: Parents, Ladies' Home Journal, Family Circle, and Child.
She and her husband, Graham, live with their children, Gregory and Julianne, in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Matthew Archambault
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Matthew Archambault always dreamed of being an illustrator. His passion is to create great paintings that inspire as well as teach. While Matthew has illustrated the covers and interiors of numerous books, he feels that Dreams To Grow On is the perfect keepsake to hand down to his own children.
Matthew currently lives in East Islip, New York with his wife Melissa and their pug dog Rockwell. As this book is being released, they are welcoming the birth of their first child.

About the author
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.”—William Wordsworth
One thing that strikes me about my writing is that the process has changed very little since I first started jotting down stories around age six. An idea fills my head and whines, cajoles, begs or bullies until I pay attention. Sometimes the ideas are so charming that I scoop them up in a hug. Other times, they’re so annoying that I snap, “What?” at their insistence. But either way, I can no more walk away from one than I could walk away from a child in need.
The ideas originate in my head, but they seem to have a mind, an essence, an existence of their own. I feel more like a vessel than an owner. Succumbing to these ideas’ insistence to flow through me is profoundly joyful, yet also utterly involuntary. And that hasn’t changed since I was six.
What has changed, I hope, is my wisdom, my insight, my courage … my head’s ability to make enough sense of these ideas to shape them into something meaningful, even the ones that scare me. Especially the ones that scare me.
I’m guessing you’ll glean from my books that I love all words, any words, Whether I’m writing for a young child, a tween, a young adult or a Ph.D., I try hard to move my reader … to make his world a little bigger or his heart a little fuller. Hopefully both.
So there you have it: I love words and I love ideas, and if I didn’t love them, they’d badger me anyhow. Thanks for sharing the experience with me.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2002Dreams To Grow On is a new offering from Illumination Arts that is filled with rhyme and colorful illustrations. It gives us an intriguing glimpse of a young girl as she goes through a typical day of pondering what she will be when she grows up - and does it by showing the awe and wonder in a child's daydream. Since this question is often on the minds of all children, it will give them lots of ideas of how to play-act their future.
"A teacher? Or a doctor? Or a writer? Let me see...
Today I'll practice all the things I just might want to be."
Lots of occupations are listed within the pages of this book, just as there are lots of things that children do during their day that can translate to what they might be when they grow up. Playing with dolls - being a mother. Building with blocks - architect. Making mud pies - baker. Looking at insects, flowers, and birds - scientist. Climbing on monkey bars - circus performer. The list goes on and on, and the illustrations are made even more interesting by showing pictures of the child in the present as well as in the future with each occupation.
"My heart will lead the way, no matter what I choose to do.
Great things are sure to happen as I make my dreams come true."
***** This is a wonderful book - just what I have come to expect from the people at Illumination Arts - and is highly recommended for children (ages four to eight) who dream of the future. *****
