Fasten your seat belts!  Via Bloomberg, folks in Pittsburgh will be able to ride in self-driving Uber cars starting at the end of August 2016 (this month!).

Rides in these driverless cars will be FREE during an initial test period!

It seems Uber is planning to roll out self-driving cars nationwide.

How Do You Feel About Hopping in the Car With a Virtual Driver?

Here’s more about this news!

Ride for Free in a Self-Driving Uber

Later this month, Uber passengers in downtown Pittsburgh will be able to ride (for free!) in 1 of 6 self-driving Uber cars.  And Uber plans to have 100 self-driving cars in Pittsburgh by the end of 2016!

For now, there will be an Uber employee sitting behind the wheel to monitor the driverless cars.  And a “co-pilot” to ride in the passenger seat, in case the car is unable to drive safely or encounters unforeseen obstacles.

Uber hasn’t set a deadline for when the driverless cars will operate without the Uber employee and copilot.

Pittsburgh Uber riders can not specifically ask for a self-driving car.  But they can opt-in and say they’d like to ride in one, and the driverless cars will randomly be sent to riders.

Because Uber rides in these self-driving cars will be free to start, you should sign-up…if you’re comfortable with a virtual driver.  I wonder if the computer driving the car will be allowed to speed.  Not that I would ever condone that!  😉

Here are ways to save and earn miles & points with Uber!
