The content inside the book is also very well done. I personally own a ton of original Nintendo Power magazines and can easily compare and contrast the content. Much of the content is from Nintendo Power and is laid out in a similar fashion. I am currently using this guide to complete Metroid on the Mini NES and it is well laid out, goes over certain secrets and tips and has a fully rendered map of the entire game. It is very easy to follow and well done, and I don't have any real complaints. It is just like reading a NP back in the day as a kid. Put this book in front of your TV, play sitting in front of the TV as in back in the 80s and you'll get a rather satisfying nostalgia that is hard to describe in words. Flick on the CRT mode on the mini NES and you can imagine Reagan being President, and the Transformers coming on TV next.
I find it peculiar that many of the comments on here suggest the book is low quality, when it clearly is not. I paid less than $30 for this book, and it easily surpasses the qualify expected at such a price. And unless you own back issues of Nintendo Power, which you probably want to keep in good shape anyways given their age, this is a great substitute so you don't bend or damage your original NP issues.
I would highly recommend this to any Nintendo fan. The NES cartridge packaging is great, the book provides reprints and guides of Nintendo Power tips from back in the day and the book simply complements the Mini NES greatly.
Although I was an avid gamer when the original NES was released, I must admit I was a Apple 2E and PC gamer at the time, playing such things as ZORK, Wizardry, King's Quest, and Bard's Tale, and missed out on the NES. I owned an Atari 2600 and 5200 at the time, but didn't try out the the Nintendo franchise until the Super NES was released. I am looking forward to getting my own NES classic when the units are at a reasonable price again. Until then, this book will keep me interested, and I hope to see a SNES classic mini and a N64 classic mini in the future!
I had read a lot of reviews that said there is suppose to be a huge Zelda map in this book. That the author even makes mention of it in the table of contents. I am thinking mine must be a different version print or release and I do not have this. I do have all the labyrinth levels 1-9 that are in the original game mapped out and the items you get after defeating all the enemies but the outer-world Zelda map seems to have been removed from my version of the book.
