Hong Kong might get hit by typhoon this week, says HKO

Get your brollies out, Coconauts. Hong Kong may be in for a typhoon this week, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Observatory posted an update today warning that a low-pressure area over the central portion of the South China Sea will gradually get stronger in the coming days, and could develop into a tropical cyclone.

The area, which is expected to move towards Hainan Island and Western Guangdong, will be “closely monitored” by the HKO for its potential impact on local weather.

Between us, we’re not keen on a tropical cyclone, but we’d be down for another thunderstorm if it yields as many beautiful forks of lightning as last time.

Meanwhile, the weather tomorrow is predicted to be mostly hot and sunny with a few squally periods thrown in for good measure. What else would you expect from a Hong Kong summer?

It’s expected to get a bit blustery on Wednesday, with moderate winds, clouds, and occasional rainfall. Typical hump day shenanigans.

Just like you, the weather’s also looking to get turnt up at the weekend: temperatures are predicted to rise, ranging from 28 and 33 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, and 28 and 34 degrees on Sunday.
