Liz Durano I realized that I could be a writer about 18 years ago, when at that time I only identified myself as a poet because I just couldn't finish a novel - …moreI realized that I could be a writer about 18 years ago, when at that time I only identified myself as a poet because I just couldn't finish a novel - I wrote many first 3 chapters then that never got to finish, but I had many finished poems. Then one day, my dad asked me what the difference was between the two when they're both basically writing. He said I had boxed myself in as a "poet" when I was a writer first. Since then, I've written about many novels, 3 of which are published, so I am very grateful to him for that moment of clarity.(less)
