John Williams will return to score Star Wars: Episode VIII

We can all relax now

Iconic composer and Star Wars legend John Williams will return to score the eighth installment, according to Masslive.

Williams told the crowd at a live show in Boston that after seeing an early cut of the film, he had signed on to score the movie. Williams apparently added that he agreed to take the position after Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy offered it to him because he was "enchanted by Daisy Ridley's portrayal of Rey" and didn't want another composer to handle her scenes.

Williams recently scored The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, but did not take on the upcoming Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One. Instead, composter Alexandre Desplat (best known for Argo, The King's Speech and Godzilla) will work with director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) on the film.

Williams will work with director Rian Johnson on scoring Episode VIII and told the Boston crowd that he'll being working on the score next month. The film will once again star Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher and will pick up where The Force Awakens ended.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters Dec. 15, 2017.
