ams buys optical sensor firm in Germany

Austrian sensor and analogue IC manufacturer ams has acquired spectral sensing systems specialist MAZeT for an undisclosed amount in cash.

Germany-based MAZet’s capabilities in IC and filter design and software system development are used in industrial and medical.

Its sensors being used in applications including airplane interior lighting, agricultural sensors, and medical skin lesion analysis.

Thomas Riener (pictured), general manager emerging sensor solutions at ams, writes:

“Adding MAZeT’s excellent optical know-how allows us to create new product and application opportunities in areas such as sensing and controlling lighting, measuring physical parameters or matching colors on a display to the real world.”

Based in Jena, Germany MAZeT has around 80 employees.

Dr. Fred Grunert, CEO of MAZeT, comments:

“Combining complementary products and the sensor expertise of both companies will create an even stronger leadership position with a leading portfolio of optical sensors targeting the automotive, industrial, medical and smart lighting end markets.”

ams is based in Premstaetten, in Austria. The firm has closed the transaction to acquire 100% of the shares of MAZeT.
