The Dreamer

Rate this book
Molly hasn’t slept well since the night of her twenty-fourth birthday. Being struck by lightning might have something to do with it, but then again, her chicken did look a little undercooked at dinner. Whatever the culprit, her life quickly catapults from mundane to insane as, night after night, Molly is transported through her once dreamless sleep to a mysterious land illuminated by shooting stars.

There she meets the captivating but frustrating Dev, and together they discover Molly possesses a power coveted by his people—the ability to conjure almost anything she desires into existence. Seduced by the possibilities of this gift, Molly shifts her attention from waking life toward the man, the magic, and the world found in her dreams.

But Molly must ask herself—does something truly exist if you only see it when you close your eyes?

Faced with the threat of losing everything—her job, best friend, boyfriend, and most importantly, that little thing called her sanity—Molly will learn just how far she’ll go to uncover what is real and what is merely a figment of her imagination.

Molly a normal hard working girl by day and badass savour by night. Imagine one day being struck by lightning and your whole world turning upside down. She falls asleep every night and wakes up in a world covered in shooting stars, where she can imagine anything and it come true. She meets Devlin! A protector, warden, and watcher of the night. Molly is there for a reason. A reason bigger than anything she could ever have imagined.

The Dreamers by E.J Mellow is what we call a fantastic original YA/NA novel. I have read a lot of YA/NA and this book is LITERALLY something I've never experienced before. This book is for the older YA peeps. It has some very amazingly written hot and steamy scenes that I very much enjoyed!

E.J has created word images so vivid that it is almost like watching a movie. She takes you for a romp through a magical dreamlike city and you find yourself in a action packed suspenseful event with the enemy that had my heart racing, and excited from beginning to end. EJ has written Molly and Devlins scenes so beautifully and charismatically through out. So much detail and love has been put into these two characters and you can definitely see that while reading.

E.J has a nack for dialogue and conversation writing. I felt like I was over hearing my friends talk. It felt real and enticing! I was kept on edge through out this novel! "Why is she here?" "What is Dev keeping secret?" "Why isn't Jared by boyfriend instead of hers" (haha)

I really enjoyed this book! and luckily I have the sequel in my hands so excuse me a moment won't you! >:) GET THIS BOOK! <3

Dream Big! I know I will be tonight!

Imagine your life. You're young, you live on your own. You have a good job and get to work with your best friend. You're dating this guy that makes you swoon every time you think about him. For your birthday, he takes you to dinner and gives you a pretty, silver charm bracelet. That night, right before you go inside your apartment building, you are struck by lightening and your whole world as you know it, changes.

I didn't know quite what to expect from the Dreamer. I follow the author on Instagram and fell in love with the cover design of the whole Dreamland Series.
I offered to do a cover reveal for the last book in the trilogy-still not really knowing what the whole storyline was. Then I got to receive the books in the mail for an honest review! I felt so elated and lucky!
I started reading the first book and four days later, I'm done because I was sad when I had to put it down! I love it so much!
I really don't want to give too much away because I think it's fun to go into a story blind-not really knowing too much about it. E J Mellow introduces you to the mind of Molly, our protagonist. Her life is pretty normal and we live it out with her for the first few chapters getting to know her. We like Molly. We *really* like Molly's love interest, Jared. He's niiiice.
A major event happens in Molly's life which brings us to this whole other *world* with other *love interests* and before we know it, we, the readers, are torn between Team Jared and Team Dev, which is really fun-getting to live vicariously through Molly's make-out sessions with each of them. E J Mellow expertly writes GREAT make-out sessions! Hahahah
But this story isn't just about Molly's romantic endeavors. It's also about a story bigger than Molly unfolding right before her eyes--it's taking control of her life and forcing her to be something she's not sure she can handle. I loved watching everything come together at the end and then so happy to get to the big cliffhanger because I already have book two in my hot little hands!
So excited to find out what happens to Molly both in her *real* life and her *dream* life! I highly recommend this book. It's a fast, fun read. Fans of the Hunger Games, the Divergent Series and the Maze Runner series would love starting the Dreamland Series. The Dreamer hooks you right in and leaves you wanting more!
PS
I would say this is for mature YA readers-15 and older (some mature, sexy stuff!)

ALERT!!! RED ALERT!!!

description

O-M-G!!!! Mellow has made my emotions fluctuate up and down like a heart beat monitor....beep! beep! I honestly don't know what to think about this book right now. I suppose I should start from the beginning right? Lol, what is wrong with you? You drunk? What?, no! Right..

Okay, so let me begin with the cover. Who would not love this cover right? Not only is it alluring you in once you set your eyes upon it but you can't get enough of it! This cover is exactly how I would depict Molly to be. Dreaming in a euphoric kind of state, albeit this cover reminds me of underwater. But kudos to the author, love her artisitc skills!

The content for this book was mind blowing. I have never come across such a exceptional piece before. ' All through the book, I kept asking what is so special about this place? Why does Molly have a connection to it? Why?? I am glad to finally have found some of those answers!

One of the biggest bummers for me in this book was the 'apparent' love triangle, I say 'apparent' in speech marks because, the one thing I did not expect was Jared. Oh, yes oh. I won't divulge too much in the romance brewing between Molly and Dev, and Molly Jared. I can tell you, I was not pleased with it. AT ALL! I mean how can she kiss two guys in the same night? One in reality and the other in the land of dreams. I think she is leading both Jared and Dev on, how can Molly state she yearns for another guy whilst being with Jared? And vice versa It's like NO, Molly no!! Now that it is revealed what Molly's true destiny is, I so want Molly to go with Dev! Even though as of yet, it seems highly unlikely (you will understand why once you read the book ;)) But that is not to underdmine Jared at all! No no no no! Jared is lush god in his own way! He took care of Molly so well and he really cares for her which he has no problem showing it ;)

On a serious note, I fell love in with Dev's character, so I hope Molly goes with him! I hope so! Will have to wait until the sequel :(

description

Apart from that, the book is sooooo sooo soo good! So please check it out! It really will blow your mind, there are some similarities of it like the Evernight Series by Claudia Gray but not many! They are both two very diverse concepts, so please don't mix them up! Both of them are great!

**To view the original post with added extras click here!**

Today, ladies and gentlemen and dragons queens plus handsome men in top hats, I am finally going to review this masterpiece of a book! I'm excited to share with you my thoughts on it + which bits put a smile on my face (hint hint: all of them involve a HOT HOT HOT reasonably good-looking male by the name of Dev).

Book cover: As Ms Mellow divulged in my interview with her, a lot of thought went into the cover of this book.

The cover, according to Ms Mellow, reflects the idea of the unconscious mind and what that could be if represented visually. The rest of the elements, like the stars and colours, link to certain parts of the book and are very symbolic. The main bulk of the art is the work of the photographer Elena Kalis whose underwater photography is breathtaking.

Not only is the cover gorgeous, but when it's next to the other stunning covers in the series, the complete set produces a wow-factor that should be on every bookshelf!

A female figure in slumber fits the book and its title perfectly. Although I must say she looks way prettier than most people when they sleep (her makeup and nails are flawless!). I'm a sucker for glitter and sparkles and these are just so ethereal! Love the space vibes I'm getting.

Thoughts: Some people are just gifted when it comes to word selection and application. Their writing never feels forced, or lacks flow - the words seem to belong on the page.

E. J. Mellow has this gift in abundance.

The only way I can explain it is that her writing makes me happy as a bookworm. The unique phrasing, the natural feel of the sentences and the dialogue, the way the character's personality shines through the descriptions...it all comes together to make a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Basically E. J. Mellow's writing is what dreams are made of (all puns intended!).

The plot is lovingly pieced together using unique and intriguing concepts that capture and challenge the imagination. The combination of a dream world, plus the ability to conjure things into existence, provides readers with a layered journey full of twists and turns as you fight to discover what is real and what only exists behind your eyelids.

Warning: the kiss scenes will turn you into a pile of fangirling goo so beware of hot dudes will brilliant blue eyes because they will melt your brain! This book is not for the faint of fangirl heart!

Original Review at http://sandrathebookworm.blogspot.com...

The author was kind enough to provide me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Gosh! Where do I even start this book had me on an emotional roller-coaster that I refused to get off of. It was such a good book and unlike anything I have ever read before. Molly is your normal 24 year old until the day she gets struck by lightning and she starts to have the same very vivid dream every night; the dream feels so real to Molly that it’s like she is living a second life. This book was so frigging AH-MA-ZING I need the second one now. E.J's world building was superb, the way she would describe the world Molly would wake up in when she went to sleep was so beautifully done it has me hoping I can go to it when I fall asleep. The Character building Molly goes through is so great she goes through some crazy moments, but as the book progresses she starts to cope with everything so well. Now to the love triangle oh, the love triangle is going to kill me! It is so well written I find myself flip flopping between Dev (The Dream Boy) and Jared (Real World) they are both so great, but when it comes down to it, I think I'm rooting a little harder for Dev he has just made his way into my heart and build a home there. All the characters E.J. Mellow introduced me to where so well written and I immediately fell in love with each one of them.

This book overall is just so greatly written! As I was reading the book just sucked me in! The story was just amazing and I can't get enough of all the characters and the beautiful world that E.J. has created. I recommend this book to everyone! I absolutely loved it and with the ending I just can’t wait to get my hands on the second one.

The Dreamer is so well written and creative. EJ did such an incredible job at creating such vivid and vibrant worlds. The character development in this book is also really amazing. The only thing that I didn't care much for in the story is the love triangle (wth Molly?!), but other than that, I very much enjoyed the book. I'm excited to find out what's going to happen next with Molly and Dev. And I can't wait to see Molly kick some Metus butt in the sequel, haha.

One of my favourite fantasy books of this year!! Loved it!!

The Dreamer by E.J Mellow is a great contemporary fantasy book that had me hooked from the start! I read it in two sittings - I would have read it in one if I didn't have to go out on a driving lesson! - and I was completely immersed in the story! The Dreamer follows Molly, who on her 24th birthday is struck by lightening. After that, whenever she falls asleep she travels to a strange place in her dreams, and discovers that she has a extremely coveted power there! In her dreamworld she meets Dev, and is brought into a new civilisation and a new evil.

I enjoyed this book so much, it really did have everything going for it. The main character, Molly, was so likeable - she felt like a real person unlike a lot of characters in fantasy books. She didn't just adapt to this world straight away, and she didn't just roll over and accept it either. I loved how she stood up to Dev when he got stubborn or bossy! My other favourite character was Becca - she was a true best friend!! Who woulnd't want a best friend like her? She was so sweet and funny and caring! I loved her sense of humour! I want to see more of her in The Divide!

I loved the contemporary fantasy setting of The Dreamer, how part of the book was set in the modern world, and the rest in the fantasy dream world. This place was quite a mystery and it kept you guessing about what the purpose of the world would be...the world building was awesome! I loved the idea of the Arcus, the propelling from rooftops sounds thrilling but terrifying!! I don't know if I'd be able to do it!!

Overall, this was a fabulous start to the series - and I am expecting great things from the sequel! I just need to get my hands on it!

Molly is your normal everyday female living in New York, steady job, wonderful best friend and a developing relationship; that is until her 24th birthday when she gets struck by lightning. For the first time in her life, Molly starts to actually remember her dreams, which are very vivid and seem like she is having the same dream every night. Molly starts to feel as though there are more to these 'dreams' as she slowly starts to be able to explore the world of her dreams.

EJ Mellow did an amazing job when it came to the world building she did for this story. Every time Molly falls asleep and wakes up in the strange dream world I felt as though I was right there beside her experiencing the world for myself. I loved each character that EJ introduced the reader to, especially Dev, and I even enjoyed the love triangle, which I know tends to be something that a lot of readers try to avoid anymore. The love triangle that EJ created will have anyone begging for more when it comes to reading this book because it is so well written and it helps develop the story and the characters.

Overall this book was downright amazing and should be on any readers TBR list, it is well worth the purchase and I can not recommend it enough.

Warning: This book is addicting and you WILL NOT be able to put it down.

My Rating:5 of 5

What do you say about a book that is completely and thoroughly enjoyable? I didn’t want it to end, but I couldn’t wait to get to the end so I could find out what happened. I finished it in 2 days! I haven't read a book that fast before.

I thought this book was pretty much perfect. I have no character complaints, I loved the plot, I loved the relationships, I loved Dev and Molly together, and I just loved Dev. (Not sure about Jared tho) I could gush about Dev forever!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good Fantasy. You won't be disappointed. Thanks, E.J. Mellow for a great book!

When the cover and synopsis of the Dreamer where announced on my blog, I was brimming with excitement at the prospect of reading it. I couldn't wait to have it in my hands (release date is May 15th)! This book has probably counted toward my most anticipated reads this year and it has fully lived up to my expectations!

The Dreamer is a New Adult story with a contemporary fantasy/paranormal twist. It really is a mixture of all my favorite genres and as such, it brings their best aspects to light. It's written in first person, modern day time.

Our main character is Molly, a 24 year old going about her life as any of us would. She has a best friend (Becca), a hunk of a boyfriend (Jared) and a pleasant enough job. And then she gets struck by lightning, triggering her to suddenly have some very life like dreams in a crazy new world.

~ Now, I like to think that I'm of reasonable intelligence, but ordinary differential equations and myself...we don't really hang in the same comprehension circles. So, try as I might to follow my teacher's logic in how he got 3f"(x) + 5xf(x) to equal eleven, I never quite understood. His answer in no way, shape, or form resembled mine, and this misalignment -this complete confusion of how point A got to point B- is kind of where I'm at right now. "Dreaming?" I repeat dubiously.

She falls in the hands of Dev who is agonizingly intriguing and try as she may to get some answers out of him, she is hard pressed to make any sense out of it all. When emotion gets torn and reality starts to blur, Molly is once and for all ready to get the answers she needs, consequences be damned.

~ And then there are the dreams that feel as authentic as reality itself, that seem to exist just as your own life does. Where the emotions you experience there carry over to when you're awake. They are so real, so genuine, that you begin to question your own sanity. And you know that when the day comes that you finally stop dreaming them, you will never stop remembering."

Molly is a great character. She is not whiny, she is not super kick ass, she is simply down to earth. Becca, is an actual best friend too. Not one that so often gets added as filler or to make the main heroine look better. And Dev.. Ohh man, he can invade my dream space any night, just sayin...

Jared to me is an interesting persona too. I still have the feeling there is more to him then this book has let on. Something I can not quite put my finger on as yet.

As you can probably tell from the quotes I have picked from this book, E.J. Mellow's writing is incredibly powerful and relatable. It is genuine and pulls you right into the world that she has created. It's also very witty without having to obsessively rely on pop culture references or the like.

Throughout the book I could feel myself looking forward to the dream scenes. Anyone remember riding a bike and heading toward a massive downward hill..? That's the feeling im talking about, the excitement mixed with anticipation of whats to come. What will Molly find out and do next, what will happen between her conflicting love interests and how in the world is she going to juggle those two together?

~ I sit on it's edge, looking down at the man who feels like he just materialized out of nowhere. My head still swims with euphoria from the moment...a moment I was just in with one man whilst sleeping next to another. Suddenly feeling dirty, I pull the sheets wrapped in front of my body closer.

I have not read many books that encompasses dreams, and the ones I have read - Timeless & Wake, are the ones I can recall- simply cannot be compared to this.

The Dreamer ends right in the thick of it. I was prepared for this since I saw the % on my reader creep up to 100 whilst we where still no where near a satisfying conclusion, but important questions are answered and the stage is set for a great second installment to be released this year.

Would I recommend it?
Heck yes, in fact go and pre-order it now! I will be adding this to my 2015 faves for sure..Anyone with a B-day soon, the surprise is now officially ruined ;)

THE DREAMER BY: E.J. MELLOW

OK so first off....that cover! Gorgeous right?!

Now in case you didn't know, I am super interested in books/movies/pretty much anything to do with dreams. It's such a neat concept for so many reasons. Dreams have the power to effect you in such powerful ways, whether it be a nightmare that has you quaking under the covers, or a spouse cheating dream that has you side eyeing that SOB like crazy in the morning, or even something magical that has you wanting to stay in your dream world for just a little while longer and avoiding the not so magical reality of a blaring alarm clock. Either way they can move you. The Dreamer explores just that, but in a really cool way.

Molly is such a down to Earth character. The seemingly mundane routine of her life makes her seem like someone you could easily know in the real world, and her sweet, kind of sassy way makes you think she could be someone you would also be friends with. It doesn't take long though for things to get quite....electric. Suddenly Molly finds herself having some of the most vivid dreams, which have her questioning pretty much everything.

I fell in love with the dream world Molly traveled to each night. I found myself craving those scenes more and more as the story progressed, right along with Molly. I mean honestly, I'd say that girl had way more will power than I did, because if it were me, nothing short of emergency situations and bathroom / food breaks would have got my ass out of that bed.

This dream world was so rich and vivid, I had no problem visualizing this beautiful land of wonder. From the sky full of shooting stars to the dreamy man candy awaiting Molly each night. It was a place full of mystery, intrigue, and possibility, and you couldn't help but to want....nay, NEED more of it!

But like any true dream landscape, it has it's darker counterparts creeping in the shadows. Molly slowly learns that this dream world is so much more than she could have ever imagined and the effects from it start making serious waves in the waking world. As new relationships bloom at night, the day time ones seem to suffer.

I find the two love interests in Molly's life to be comparable to the worlds they hail from. Jared, the guy she is dating by day, seems to fit right in to her simple life comfortably. I can't say that there was anything I didn't like about the guy, he was sweet, thoughtful and a gentleman. I just got the feeling that something was missing between them. Their relationship felt very uncomplicated and safe. Devlin is a stark contrast to Jared in just about every way. He is as dark and mysterious as the nighttime land he is from. There is one thing that is for certain, Dev and Molly have an instant blazing chemistry that leaps of the pages. Dev is unpredictable, and he incites such visceral reactions from Molly. It's hard for me to not lean towards team Dev.....sorry Jared.

I wish I could say more about the incredible world that Mellow has created here, but I wouldn't want to rob you the experience of finding these things out for yourself. All I can really say is that it was VERY intriguing and unique. And just like any great dream, The Dreamer seemed over way before I was ready to let it go. I will definitely be painstakingly awaiting the chance to emerge myself back in this captivating universe that Mellow has created.

I received a copy of this book from the author because she's a fabulous person like that, but fear not, her personal awesomeness didn't have any bearing on how AMAZING I thought this book was!!

Well, first of all, thank you Beatrice from Beatrice Learns to Read for introducing me to The Dreamer. After reading her review, I literally purchased and read The Dreamer within two days.

After getting struck by lightning, Molly's normal life with her best friend, Becca, and boyfriend, Jared, gets a lot more exciting when upon dreaming she is sent to Tera Somniorum, a magical realm normally unknown to humans. Here Molly meets Dev, a protector of Dreamers. And let me tell you, the romance(s) in The Dreamer reminds me of the tension deciding between Roth and Zayne in Jennifer. L. Armentrout's The Dark Elements series.

I'll admit, I was a bit frustrated with her indecisiveness between the two men. At the same time, however, given the complicated scenario, I can understand her mixed feelings. Please pick Dev. Jared is somewhat Molly's safety net in her everyday life. They've only been dating for a short time, but he has already proven his feelings and commitment to their relationship. Dev, however, is more of an adventure in Molly's life. Considering Molly can only see Dev in her dreams, though, she isn't even entirely sure he is real.
"Isn't it obvious?" He gestures with his hands, showcasing his body. "I'm the man of your dreams."
The Dreamer is a bit like two stories in one. While Molly is awake, the story follows a more contemporary style; whereas, while Molly is asleep, the story incorporates a fantasy and/or paranormal element. The way the two genres are blended together is done extremely well. The description of Tera Somniorum is incredibly visual and the purpose of its inhabitants, along with their history, is completely fascinating. I love when a story can make a fantasy world seem possible, and The Dreamer does just that.

As much as I enjoyed the fantasy elements, the moments while Molly is awake was equally as thrilling. I loved the realistic struggle of Molly thinking she was losing her mind, and the methods she uses to deal with these feelings. I especially loved her relationship with her best friend, Becca, during these waking hours, as well. Becca was a really supportive friend, but added so much humour to the story when needed.

And oh my gosh, what a cliffhanger ending. It was the perfect finish to set up for a more action packed sequel. I cannot wait to find out what happens next in The Divide.

So I was EXTREMELY lucky to have received an ARC of this book because it is bad ass!!! The plot was so so so refreshing to me! And when you're living half time in a dream world anything is possible and impossible things do happen. I thought that E.J. did a wonderful job of going back and forth between the two worlds when that can so easily get boring or tedious very quickly. That absolutely did NOT happen here! I found myself loving characters from both settings and wishing they would somehow all get to be together. The writing is very clever and I found myself laughing out loud often. I find that if there's little humor in a story I can become disinterested quickly but I couldn't put this book down! She has done some excellent world building in this book and is able to tie them together in a pretty fantastic way. I can't wait to see more of that unfold in the next book! The characters are going to grab you and the development is strong enough to have me wanting to know everyone like a best friend. And wanting to know Dev as maybe more than friends... Whew! What a hottie!!! And that attitude! He's just so sexy! I can't wait to see how the plot progresses with an impending war and stakes being raised but I'll bet that the next book will be even more epic than the first. I. Cannot. Wait.
So my suggestion to you is DEFINITELY BUY THIS BOOK!! And if your favorite color isn't already blue then I suggest you be prepared for a giant shift in perspective ;)

I was fortunate to be sent a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Ms. Mellow. :)

It's unlike any book I've read, honestly. The book is so creative and innovative. The characters are so loveable and the plotline is highly interesting.
Molly, the protagonist, gets struck by lightning on her birthday and then starts to dream the weirdest stuff. What she discovers is that when she sleeps, she goes to an entirely different world.
If you love fantasy, or are fascinated by things related to dreams, PICK THIS UP because if you don't, you are missing on something really good.
My favourite character is Dev, but at the same time I am in love with Jared because he is so genuine & nice. It's confusing.
A real treat for fantasy lovers.

A book world that I am going to keep thinking for days.

I was initially attracted to this book because of the cover, and the blurb was interesting. Books involving dreaming and the subconscious fascinate me. Plus, there was the idea of going back and forth between worlds and the repercussions that this would have on the main character's mind and body in real life. It reminded me of a YA series I started reading as a teenager, Stravaganza by Mary Hoffman, in which the main character also travels between places in his sleep. That series left a mark on me, and I wanted to see if The Dreamer could live up to the idea...but with an NA flavour.

And? Yes, it could. I enjoyed this book more than I expected, honestly. I found myself awake at 2am on a weeknight, shaking my head at myself because I was reading a book about dreaming instead of actually dreaming. I suffered from the "just one more chapter" virus, looking at the clock and thinking, hmmm, I'm sure I can fit one more in... Needless to say, I was tired at work the next day. And then I finished the book during my lunch break.

The concept was interesting, new and oddly relatable! Molly is 24 (yay! like me!), in a new relationship and working a stable job. Then she gets struck by lightning and suddenly starts having dreams of a man with blue eyes and a sky filled with shooting stars. The pacing was a slow build towards the excitement to the end, and it allowed for Molly to naturally learn about this dreamland and what it represented. It was so, so cool, and I loved the world and roles Mellow conjured up!

I also liked how Molly struggled with separating her dreams from reality and battling with her powerlessness over the situation. She tried to control her sleep patterns, going to extremes. The effect this sudden change in her life had on her work and relationships was believable and a little heartbreaking.

What was especially heartbreaking was the love triangle. This was a case where I could definitely understand and appreciate the love triangle. In the real world, Molly had recently begun dating Jared, a charming lawyer who genuinely cared about her wellbeing. He was so sweet, almost too sweet at one point. The development of this relationship felt natural. On the other hand, Molly was drawn (in "hate"-to-insta-love kind of way) to Dev in her dreams. She knew he wasn't part of reality, and yet she still battled to keep thoughts of "the man of her dreams" out of her waking hours. I felt genuine pain reading this because I fell for both of the men, and I still can't pick a team.

FYI, the chemistry is definitely palpable, but the steaminess was relatively light for NA.

The one thing that I just didn't understand is that it took a while for Molly to discover her ability – more than half the book, in fact. Then, once the truth came to light, she didn't really do anything with it. As the blurb says, she had the power to conjure anything in her dreams; if I had that, I'd go crazy testing it out! You'd see me changing my clothes and hair colour, dreaming up strapping young men and manifesting a private cinema with unlimited popcorn and nachos. ;) Don't lie to me and tell me you wouldn't take powers like that for a spin!

This was related to lucid dreaming. I am a big fan of lucid dreaming! It's something I can do from time to time and can be a lot of fun. In case you're wondering, lucid dreaming is when you have a level of conscious control in dreams, so you can 'will' something to happen in the dream instead of being pulled along powerlessly by it. This ability is so cool, and I look for whatever books I can that explore it!

The book does end on a slight cliffhanger, but it seemed like a natural place to leave it. Overall, I was left incredibly impressed and eager to read the rest of the series!

“And then there are the dreams that feel as authentic as reality itself, that seem to exist just as your own life does. Where the emotions you experience there carry over to when you're awake. They are so real, so genuine, that you begin to question your own sanity. And you know that when the day comes that you finally stop dreaming them, you will never stop remembering.”

Sometimes dreams can seem so real that you aren't even sure whether or not you actually are dreaming. Those are the types of dreams I crave, the ones that feel so real, that are so close to being the kind of reality that I want that I couldn't imagine waking up again. But none of those dreams could ever compare to the kind that Molly has, and I still don't know whether I want to be in her shoes or not.

See, it all started when Molly was going home after celebrating her 24th birthday with her amazing attorney boyfriend Jared. Maybe it would have been better for her to play hooky that night instead of going home to work because that's when it happened. The whole getting struck by lightning and almost dying thing. Kind of puts a damper on birthday celebrations, right?

Fast-forward to her time in the hospital, while she was in her mini coma, and she ends up dreaming for the first time in her life. And for some reason she dreams about this field with a single tree, with a bunch of stars in the sky, and this mysterious guy dressed in all black. Who is this guy, and has she seen him before? Is he someone from her past that is suddenly making an appearance in her subconscious? Whoever he is, he is certainly dreamy (pun-intended).

Molly basically starts to dream about this land, which she finds out is called Terra, basically a land of dreams. She also finds out that there's so much more to her than she thought, and while she may have already been pretty sure of herself from the moment we met her, she learns that she is meant for greatness. It almost reminded me of that movie, Night at the Museum, where Theodore Roosevelt talked about greatness. Yeah, that's pretty much Molly right now.

Not to mention Dev is a book babe, and I'm so obsessed with him that I wish I could dream about him as much as Molly did. Granted, the time that Molly spent with him was 50% rolling her eyes at him and 50% wanting to take his clothes off, but I know there is so much more to this guy. I just want to know his backstory, like who was he before he became this bad ass head of military specialist that is fascinated by Molly and how human she is.

So did I like the book? Loved it. Do I want the physical book as well as the Kindle version? Absolutely. Do I want Dev to myself?

You bet your ass I do.

I received a finished copy of this book from E.J. Mellow in exchange for an honest review. By no means have my review been affected and/or influenced.

I honestly don’t know where to start with this review. I’m still hung over with what I’ve read and I just can’t with this book!!! IT’S EXCEPTIONAL! I’m so glad to have come across The Dreamer and get the chance to enter its world.

Molly never dreams or it’s because she doesn’t remember them when she wakes up. But after being struck by lightning on her 24th birthday —and luckily survives— she starts having this weird dream where she visits the same place consecutively. Everything she experiences in her dreams are so vivid, it’s almost real. Including Dev.

The Dreamer is a fantasy fulfilling book. I have always been a curious fan of dreams and controlling them and reading this book is like living the dream. No pun intended. But yeah, I was crazy about this book I even had a dream about it.

Anyway, in this book, you get to experience what it’s like to live in 2 separate worlds, one being in the real world, the other in the dreamland and that’s where the conflict arises. How can Molly possibly live 2 separate lives without compromising one of them?

The world building is imaginative, the way Molly describes Terra Somniorum made it easy for the readers to access the world freely. The narrative is straightforward. The story line alone is already captivating, but Molly’s narration made it even more engaging. I love being inside her head, it’s very transparent. I didn’t have a difficult time reading this book.

And don’t get me started with the romance. THE FEELS!!! I’m starting to think this book had affected my mental state. Okay, so… this is the first book I’ve read that had me rooting for the 2 love interests. I wanted Molly with Jared, and I wanted Molly with Dev, too. I know it’s crazy but.. yeah it’s crazy. I can’t even gather my words for this. You need to read this book to know what I’m talking about. But to enlighten you, Dev is the dreamland guy, and Jared is Molly’s “boyfriend”. *squeals* both of them are gorgeous and uhm, there’re lots of kissing. SWEET.

Lastly, I can’t say that this book only begins near the end even if it may seem like that because in the first parts, we’re still clueless with what’s happening and why the strange dreams. I didn’t mind, I enjoyed every bit of it. But the big reveal near the end hints that it’s only the beginning. The story starts to unravel in the last parts and I can’t get over it. I need the next book!

AHHH!!!!!!! 6 stars!
E.J. has successfully turned into one of my favorite authors after reading this. Her world-building skills are breathtaking and a breath of fresh air! I devoured every single detail of it. The twist she created around the act of dreaming is literally out of this world! There are so many unique aspects in this story that it blew my mind how E.J. was capable to come up with them all!
Molly's character development was perfection! The emotions she felt throughout this book are so strong they seeped right into me! So much that some scenes in this book made me freak and scream out loud!
Molly faced realistic consequences for someone who is living two separate lives, one when she's awake and the other when she's asleep. Every word came alive as both of her lives collided and she struggled to figure out a way to make them work without losing her mind. It was amazing finding out how the events in Dream Land affected Earth and vice versa.
All of the characters were stunning and realistic, I fell in love with all of them!
I thoroughly enjoyed Molly's relationship with Becca. Their friendship wass honestly so genuine and heart warming that I believed every second of it. Lately, some authors haven't been able to capture the essence of true friendship but E.J. did that and so much more.
This book was full of hilarious dialogue that I couldn't just chuckle. I had to laugh out loud from deep within my stomach. It was immensely pleasing that the characters were older than 20 years old, it helped me relate to them more and appreciate the maturity of the content.
Oh, and the love triangle in this book was so painful! Both of the men in Molly's life, Earth Jared and Dream Land Dev, were just so perfect and honest that I was having a hard time choosing between the two and they're not even a part of MY life.
Dev's character was amazingly portrayed. He was the right amount of smug without coming out as annoying and the moments where he let his walls down were the death of me!
Noooo, I feel a hangover coming along. I need book two! Can't wait to get my hands on it the moment it comes out! I recommend this book to EVERYBODY!

4.5/5

The Dreamer is the first book in a new, New Adult fantasy series, called the Dreamland Series. I loved this book. I found it to be well written, fresh, engaging and really creative. I loved the world within a world that Author E.J. Mellow created. The book starts out by Molly getting struck by lightening and ending up in the hospital. I thought it was funny that the doctor made an offhand comment that she might experience some weird dreams, which then sets off the whole rest of the story.

Because Molly does experience some weird dreams. Dreams that have her questioning what is real and what isn't. Molly gets transported to the same, very strange looking world in each of her dreams. A world where she is a special person called a dreamer, and that she might just play a pivotal role in their society and survival. I don't want to tell you much more than that because I loved the way E.J. Mellow painted the picture. She did a fantastic job with her world building, and I want you to experience terra sominum (can't remember the spelling, and can't find it in my kindle) for yourself.

And for my romance fans out there- you need to read the Dreamer. I love Dev and Molly so much. That is also the only reason that I knocked 1/2 star off. Because of Molly's "real-life" boyfriend. Who is also very nice (kind of like Dean in Gilmore Girls. He was nice, but kind of boring, when put next to Rory's other choices.) And it is really, really hard to compare to Dev. I want the other guy out of the picture completely, and until that happens I will be a little sad. I hope to see lots more Molly and Dev in the next book.

And speaking of the next book, I already know it is going to be epic and action packed. So what does that mean for you? You need to read the Dreamer ASAP. This is a great find as a favorite series for me. I can't wait for the next book. I want it in my hands right now!

This is a book I've been meaning to read for a while. Several of my friends just rave about The Dreamland Series and I have to admit, the breathtaking cover caught my attention almost immediately.

I will admit, The Dreamer wasn't what I was expecting. While very beautifully written and fantastical, it felt more science fiction and psychology than fantasy and magic, but that's not a bad thing at all! It was a world that I never could have imagined and I think that EJ Mellow is the perfect author to tell this story.

As I said, the writing is beautiful. The world-building is divine. The characters and setting are to die for. Yes, there is a bit of a love triangle, and as of right now, I have to admit I'm #TeamJared. I need to read the second book before discussing this with my friends, however, because I'm pretty sure they've all read it. They might know things that I don't! But yeah, as of right now, definitely rooting for Jared. He's just too sweet.

I read a review that called this book "Alice in Wonderland for a new generation." I do believe they were right.

WHAT'S GOING ON? Why is there a cliffhanger?! Is it because this is an unfinished ARC? I need to know what happens!

This book is amazing! The world is so unique! Sometimes when the author was explaining world terminology/world building, I dozed off/I was confused. I really tried visualizing some stuff, but I could never grasp it. I felt like it lacked SOME-NOT A LOT-of details sometimes.

I really liked the characters. Except for Molly because after reading the last couple of chapters...I really don't like her, as of right now. Throughout the book, she was kind of on the Mary Sue side/whiny.

The writing kept me begging for more! I want more! I need answers!

What is that it?! This book has a really fresh plot, for me anyway. I haven't read a book about space travel via dream and it's totally cool. This has a gripping story line that has me reading it from first chapter down to the last. It was a page-turner; it was fast paced but it's not rushed so it developed well.
