Be alert when you are attacked

“Security companies and law enforcement agencies need to have an accurate description of the suspect to assist them in tracking down the perpetrator.”

Crime can happen anywhere.

ADT general manager inland region Theunis Kotze said it was important for crime victims to provide a clear description of a person who had committed a crime.

“Security companies and law enforcement agencies need to have an accurate description of the suspect to assist them in tracking down the perpetrator,” he said.

ADT security provided a few essential tips people could follow when they found themselves victims of crime.

– Do not make direct eye contact with the perpetrator

– Note what the perpetrator is wearing, including logos on clothing

– Note prominent facial features, or important marks such as tattoos

– Observe the tone of perpetrators (for example, if they have a lisp or a high pitched voice or accent)

– Take note of the vehicle used, for example the vehicle model, colour, registration number, or features such as mag wheels, marks or dents

– Be observant of your surroundings

ADT security visits community watches, which they support, to provide them with workshops on how to ensure a safer environment.

These training workshops have expanded to include domestic workers and other parties.

Kotze encouraged people to be attentive of any possible risks and to provide police and security companies with as much detail as possible.

“This will help law enforcement agencies identify the suspect and will hopefully assist in putting them behind bars quickly,” said Kotze.
