About the Author

Chuck Dixon's resume includes thousands of scripts for iconic characters like Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Iron Man, the Punisher, The Simpsons, Spongebob Squarepants, GI Joe and many others. He is (along with artist Graham Nolan) the creator of the Batman villain Bane, the first permanent addition to the Dark Knight's rogues gallery in forty years and for which he won 1993's Wizard Fan Award for best new character. His graphic novel adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit is a perennial bestseller worldwide. His unprecedented 100 issue run on DC Comics Robin is considered to be a classic in the comics medium. Chuck's contributions to Marvel Comics' The Punisher are widely acknowledged as integral to that character's development.

Love the comics but the binding could be better

Love the comics but the binding could be better
Four stars because the binding could be better (see the pictures) and the origin of Azrael was not included. I love the omnibus hardcover format but the binding on this volume is very weak. I don't recommend standing up this book on a shelf, instead have it laid down. The binding will last longer and the book better preserved. If the book is left standing, over time, the binding will come loose and eventually rip off (as is plainly seen in the third picture). The other problem I have with this omnibus is that the three issues Batman: Sword of Azrael was not included and I don't know why. Since the character of Jean Paul Valley played a central role in the whole saga and bits of his origin was mentioned, it seemed to make sense to include those three issues (to make this omnibus complete). If you don't know about the Sword of Azrael, check it out (still available for purchase on Amazon). When this story first came out in the early 90s, I wasn't a big fan. However, over the years, I have come to like this story and in a way, it has become a classic. Funny but thinking about it, I seem to read this story once every decade (90s when it first came out, 2000s in collected trade paperback, 2010s and now in 2020s in omnibus format). As a collection, this omnibus is the best so far since it included not only The Vengeance of Bane but the story started with Batman 484 and including Detective Comics 654. Most Knightfall collections start with Batman 492 (Knightfall 1). As much as I like the background issues (Batman 484 - 492 and Detective Comics 654 - 658) I was very disappointed that the three issues Sword of Azrael was not included (as mentioned above). The pages are thick and sturdy but as mentioned above, the binding is not my favorite. Overall, if you are a Batman fan, this is a must have. I only hope that you got it at a discount price and not full cover price.

Knightfall was the first comic series I ever collected entirely, so this was a must have for me.

This book is MASSIVE. It collects the entire Knightfall arc, plus Vengeance of Bane and the long-awaited-to-be-collected pre-Knightfall issues (which shows the wearing down of Batman and introduces some key characters and plot points). PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT collect any issues of KnightQuest or KnightsEnd. My only complaint issue wise is the exclusion of Sword of Azrael, which introduces Jean Paul Valley who takes up the mantle of the bat after Bruce is injured.

The collection flows nicely with DC FINALLY getting the placement of Shadow of the Bat #16-18 correct. I noticed some small incorrect colors in Batman #497 but nothing too visually distracting. The pages are glossy and are vibrant with color.

The bonus features at the back of the book contain concept art for the new Batsuit from Joe Quesada, as well as concept art for Bane and his henchmen by Graham Nolan. It also contains a short story from Batman: Villains Secret Files that shows how Bane infiltrated Wayne Manor, as well as some covers from the Knightfall saga. There is a nice foreword from Doug Moench and an even better afterword from Chuck Dixon containing his trademark humorous writing style.

All in all, I highly recommend it, whether you're a child of 90s comics or wanting to read the story of Batman's greatest defeat.

    The pros
    -correct reading order
-previously uncollected material showing the physical and mental breakdown of the Batman prior to facing Bane
    -high quality paper and inks
-great bonus material featuring a behind the scenes look at Knightfall

    The cons
    -no Sword of Azrael
    -some incorrect colors

i have been waiting for this to finally come out in an omnibus edition and i was not upset that i waited. before this hit the shelves a few weeks ago the only way you could read this story line was to either have the single issues or have massive paperback volumes of this story line that would have an extreme amount of gutter loss and would simply break down rather quickly while reading. but now that it has been released in a hardcover format the book not only gets to look beautiful on my shelf but it gets a spine so sturdy that it would make the batman jealous... (see what i did there ?) my only gripe with this book is that it leaves out the sword of azreal prelude to knightfall where we would first me AZ but that is just nitpicking. overall for any fan of batman and his most influential mega event this is a must buy you could get it cheaper in paperback but with a tomb like this hardcover is the only real way to go. start your knightfall collection now so you dont have to pay astronomical prices once the second and third volumes come out and this book goes OOP

When I start reading this omnibus I never thought it will be so addictive. I ordered the second and third volume very soon, while I was half way the first volume.
The story truly centers on two main characters.
    Bane and Azrael.
Bane isn't a bad guy as far as I learned about his past in the first chapter. He had a fear of bats since his childhood and that makes him a tough guy for Batman.
Where Azrael was brainwashed with a system instill in his mind of being an angel of death.
His vengeance against Bane was dreadful.
I really hope in near future we see a direct to fil lm adaptation of this masterpiece.
I personally liked the entire volumes to be make into a TV series.
They will garnered high class ratings because the story is quite captivating.
    I give a 5.
I recommend everybody must read the Knightfall Volumes.

Finally we get this epic and iconic Batman story in hardcover! Great quality book with plenty of extra issues included that were not included in the paperback prints. It's a massive book but a surprisingly easy ready as it flows well chronicling Batman's physical and mental deterioration to his defeat and replacement by a newcomer. I can't wait for volumes 2 and 3 to complete the set. A must have for any Batman fan!

Saga clássicas do morcego.

What a beast of a book! I was on the hunt for the Knightfall Vol 1 collection in paperback but stumbled across this omnibus (Vol 1) that collects Knightfall plus all the comics related to the main story. This book has to be three inches thick and weighs about five pounds! I was apprehensive about the price but pleased with the quality of what I got.

Knightfall is one of my favourite batman tales. This edition includes several issues that were published before the main storyline which give better context as to why Bruce Wayne is exhausted and ready to fall. It's a shame that the sword of Azarel didn't make it in to the book but it is already massive! Looking forward to the next edition.
