Life of a Poor Vegetarian

@lifeofapoorvegetarian / lifeofapoorvegetarian.tumblr.com

My name's Kate. I'm a recent grad trying to survive as a vegetarian on a college budget. This could get interesting.

SO HERE IS MY PROBLEM WITH MAGIC THE GATHERING!

I love lore and magic and fictional worlds but hate having to work to get it.

(Yes I’m the person watching all the movie style cut scenes on YouTube instead of playing the video game.)

Magic the gathering has this same problem for me, I think it sounds really awesome but can not commit to the game and the cards and the sifting for things I want to learn. (I’m already playing D&D I can’t add this to my list of stuff too)

So I did the only possible thing I could do and made friends who love Magic enough to make a lore podcast!

Yup you heard it first here people, all of the lore you want for game players and casual listeners alike. (Plus it’s free and who doesn’t love free stuff)

Click the link above for the goods.

You’re welcome people !

Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.

“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.

If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.

if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.

thats how that works.

Wow I don’t understand math at all

‘if you have a baby after 35, the chance of deformities goes up by 100%’ is a line I hear alot.

It goes up from .5% to 1%

I think my brain just stopped working

100% is just another way of saying twice more likely. So 100% more basically means multiply the number you do have by 2.

Imagine how many woman are scared to have kids because of that statistic

This is why I took stats instead of calc. Because I don’t build engineer bridges in my everyday life but I sure do read studies that affect how I might live my life if I misinterpret them.

I’m terrible at numbers and math but I knew this and I really take it for granted. The average person definitely assumes, quite understandably, that “600% INCREASE!!!” must always mean a whole lot even if it literally only means that one of something is now six of something. Politicians probably take a shitload of advantage of this confusion.

just remember that increased BY and increased TO are very different things.

Oh god I didn’t even think about that whole other layer of confusion. Yeah if you’ve got 100 people and one of them is sick, that’s 1% of them who are sick, so if it “increased BY 100%” then that means now two people are sick. If it’s “increased TO 100%” then all 100 people are sick.

This is why people say “There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

Statistics are great and useful and informative — as long as you know how to handle them.

listen I don’t “like” things, I either read a book/watch a show and forget 0.2 secs later or change my entire lifestyle based on what it was until I find something new

I made homemade pizza!

Crust recipe here

This recipe is super easy to follow and actually worked really well...almost to well, I had way more dough than I originally planned and I was only making pizza for three people.

(The pepperoni one is obviously not for me.....and yes I do like corn on my pizza fight me)

In retrospect I should have just frozen some of the excess dough for another day....but I didn’t do that, instead I just tried to make super chunky pizzas.

Ultimately, the pizzas were way to beady as a result of my lack of foresight, but none the less the recipe worked well and I would definitely use it again.
