The CAA has given Amazon exceptions from rules around the operation of drones in certain areas.

It will be able to test drones which are out of sight of an operator.

It will be able to trial sense and avoid technology.

It will be able to have one pilot control multiple drones.

Amazon is developing drones near Cambridge where it is testing drones. It is also testing them in other areas.

The drones are not allowed to fly higher than 400ft or near an aircraft flightpath.

The CAA says it is co-operating with the Amazon tests to learn more about how it should shape its drone regulation in the future.

Current Amazon drones can carry 5lbs for 15 miles.

The Royal Mail and DeutschePoste say they are looking at the technology.

In America, drones cannot be flown out of the sight of the operator.
