Joe Satriani hopeful Chickenfoot will lay down new music this summer
It’s been over six years since Chickenfoot last released an album and hopefully the wait for new material could soon be over.
The supergroup consisting of guitar legend Joe Satriani, ex Van Halen stars Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith have only played a handful of shows since their Different Devil Tour in 2012 wrapped up.
Exactly a year ago today, the band briefly resurfaced with a new song called ‘Divine Termination’ to promote their best-of compilation called ‘Best + Live’, however they soon disappeared off the radar again.
Now, in a fresh interview with Detroit's WRIF radio station, Joe Satirani says that at least three quarters of Chickenfoot at chomping at the bit of reconvene for a new album.
"Well, I think all of us… I should say when I say 'all of us,' I mean myself and Chad and Mike, we're trying to convince Sammy to spend some time working on some new songs with us,” says Satch.
“I think he wants to do it, but he's too busy having a good time with all his other stuff. So, we just have to go in there and write down in his date book that he's got some sessions ahead of him. So maybe this summer.
“It looks like all of us are gonna have a little time this summer, so we're gonna try to see if we can get in the studio then."
Chickenfoot’s second studio album, ‘Chickenfoot III’, was released in September 2011 and dented the Billboard Top 10 in the US.
Don’t forget Joe Satriani’s legendary G3 touring entity is coming to the UK this April for six headline shows. Satch will be performing alongside Dream Theater’s John Petrucci and former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth at all shows.
Commenting on the G3 tour’s 22-year history, Satriani said: “I could say that I’m surprised at the durability of G3 and how much it’s grown, but in a way I’m not.
“I think part of its charm and its mojo is in the chemistry of having three top guitarists share what they do on stage. It’s fun, it’s unpredictable, it’s wild – it’s everything you could want in a show.”
