Jessica Hood pleads guilty in court Wednesday

Years after a grandfather and his two twin grandchildren were killed in a crash, the driver has pleaded guilty in their deaths.Florence police said that almost three years ago to the day, a car went left of center on Weaver Road in Florence, hitting a group of six people walking lawfully on the side of the road.Charles Napier, 49, and his twin grandchildren, Sean and Samantha May, 13 months old, died. Napier's daughter, Susan Elam, 28, and 3-year-old grandson Ethan May, were injured. The sixth person was not hurt.The adults had been pulling the children in wagons on the way home from getting pizza when they were hit by Jessica Hood, 24.On Wednesday, Hood admitted she had been distracted by looking at her phone, attempting to plug it in and change music when the crash happened.Police said she had three passengers with her in the car at the time, and none of them were hurt.Officials said she traveled nearly 1,000 feet for around 15 seconds without noticing the group on the side of the road.Hood eventually turned herself in to police and was indicted. On Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to three counts of manslaughter and two counts of assault.She will be sentenced on April 16.
