Starring Zac Efron in the lead role, the film tells the true story of serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile Ted Bundy from the viewpoint of his blinkered girlfriend.

Papa Het plays no-nonsense Utah highway patrol veteran Officer Bob Hayward in the film who arrests Bundy on suspicion of burglary only to discover he might be hiding more hideous crimes.

Taking to Instagram, director Joe Berlinger shared a photo of James as Bob Hayward in a police interview room where Bundy is about to be interrogated.

Berlinger told his followers: “A #special #day on #set of our little #bundy #movie starring @zacefron and @lilyjcollins ... @metallica is in the house as #jameshetfield @papahet plays Officer Bob Hayward in the #metal #god 's #first #dramatic #role #cleancut Having one of my #musical #heroes in our #film is #pretty #damn #awesome.”

Berlinger, who co-directed and co-produced the acclaimed Metallica documentary ‘Some Kind of Monster’ in 2004 and wrote the accompanying book ‘Metallica: This Monster Live’, personally invited James to star in his film.

He says: “Having spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes with James and the rest of Metallica, I have experienced his charisma and powerful presence close up.

“It seemed only natural that he would bring that same power and magnetism to a dramatic role, so when he agreed to my pitch that he be in the movie, I was thrilled.”

As well as Zac Efron and James Hetfield, ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’ also stars Lily Collins as Kloepfer, John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Haley Joel Osment, Kaya Scodelario, Angela Sarafyan, Jeffrey Donovan Terry Kinney and Dylan Baker.

The tentative release date for 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil’ is yet to be revealed.
