Papadopoulos told Australian diplomats that Moscow had Clinton's emails

The New York Times is out with a fresh revelation in the Trump-Russia story: His team knew Russia had stolen Hillary Clinton's emails and would release them.

Trump and top officials have steadfastly maintained they didn't know about the emails until they were released on WikiLeaks.

The report says that in May 2016 George Papadopoulos told Australia's top diplomat in Britain about the emails during a night of drinking. When the emails began leaking two months later, the diplomats told American intelligence officials what he'd said.

The NYT cites four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians' role.

If true -- and since Papadopoulos is co-operating -- this is likely a major development.
