TORONTO -- LeBron James zoomed past Giannis Antetokounmpo into first place in voting for the 67th NBA All-Star Game next month in Los Angeles, according to the most recent data released by the league.
James, 33, in his 15th season and shooting for his 14th All-Star appearance and start, is now the league's leading vote getter with 1,622,838 votes, to Antetokounmpo's 1,480,954. The game is Feb. 18 at Staples Center.
When the earliest returns were announced last week, the 23-year-old Antetokounmpo led James by 7,000.
In the West, Golden State's Stephen Curry leads with 1,369,658 votes. Teammate Kevin Durant is next with 1,326,059.
Fan voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Monday. Starters for the game are chosen through a point system in which fan voting accounts for 50 percent for the weight; players and media make up the other half. Coaches choose the reserves.
Remember, finishing first in the East or West in All-Star voting carries the added responsibility of drafting teams for the game from the pool of All-Stars. There is no more East versus West in the All-Star game.
Cavaliers center Kevin Love remains fifth among frontcourt players in the East (458,157), while teammate Dwayne Wade moved up from sixth to fifth place among Eastern guards (353,273).
