At the Golden Globes last weekend, the #TimesUp movement sparked another kind of conversation. Reporters asked actors such as Timotheé Chalamet, Justin Timberlake, and Greta Gerwig why, if they supported a movement against Hollywood sexism and industry inequality, they would also agree to work with Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual abuse by his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow. Allen denies the allegations.

Gerwig, who at first stumbled over the question at the awards ceremony, had a much more definitive answer later in the week, saying that, given what she knows now, she’d never work with the director again. Though Rebecca Hall only spent one day on the set of Allen’s next movie A Rainy Day in New York, the actress said on Friday that she’d be taking action, too, donating her entire salary from the movie to the Time’s Up fund.

“It’s a small gesture and not one intended as close to compensation but I’ve donated my wage to @timesup,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ve also signed up, will continue to donate, and look forward to working with and being part of this positive movement towards change not just in Hollywood but hopefully everywhere.”

Hall explained that she’d always felt grateful to Allen for kickstarting her career with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and that she’d agreed to appear in the film for one day—which coincidentally coincided the breaking news of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. “I couldn’t have imagined somewhere stranger to be that day,” she wrote. Hall said that she’d since re-read the statements of Dylan Farrow and had a change of mind.

“I see, not only how complicated this matter is, but that my actions have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed,” she wrote. “I regret this decision and wouldn’t make the same one today.”
