49ers LB Reuben Foster is arrested for marijuana possession

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster may have made the mistake of confusing California marijuana laws with Alabama’s. On Friday, the former Crimson Tide linebacker was arrested in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and charged with second-degree marijuana possession.

It’s only the latest blemish on Foster’s record, and another reason for the Niners to question his maturity. Last March, Foster was sent home from the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis after getting belligerent with a hospital worker during his routine physical. He later returned a positive drug test as a result of his diluted sample and plummeted to the bottom of the first round where San Fran scooped him with the 31st pick.

California legalized and decriminalized recreational marijuana on Jan. 1, but Alabama is the home of draconian marijuana laws. Under Alabama state criminal law, second-degree possession is a Class A misdemeanor, which suggests the legal aspect of this arrest will blow over soon.

During his rookie season, Foster showed promise at outside linebacker and compiled 72 tackles, good for second on San Francisco, in only 10 games.
