Poll: Majority don’t want Oprah to run

Oprah Winfrey would beat President Trump in a 2020 showdown, but the majority of voters don’t actually want her running for office, according to a new poll.

The 63-year-old former talk show host would win the White House over 71-year-old Trump, 50 to 39 percent, an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, released Friday, finds.

But the majority of those polled said they had no interest in seeing Winfrey, the founder of the OWN TV network and star of the upcoming film, “A Wrinkle in Time,” trade the media world for the political ring. Fifty-four percent of the 1,350 adults surveyed said they wouldn’t want to see Winfrey run for president in 2020.

While 40 percent of the Democrats polled said they’d be against a Winfrey 2020 White House bid, a whopping 77 percent of Republicans opposed any potential campaign.

Winfrey stirred speculation of a White House run after she delivered an impassioned speech about the “Me Too” movement at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men,” Winfrey said while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the ceremony in Los Angeles. “But their time is up. Their time is up!”

Winfrey has remained mum since her Globes speech about any political ambitions.

Her best friend, “CBS This Morning” anchor Gayle King, said earlier this week that the media mogul was “intrigued” by the idea of a presidential run. But King added on Tuesday that she didn’t think Winfrey was “actually considering” a political bid.
