Fortnite: Battle Royale is getting a 20-versus-20-versus-20-versus-20-versus-20 mode

This is going to be a lot of fun

Fortnite’s free Battle Royale game is being updated with a new mode that will pit five teams of 20 players each against one another to see who can survive the longest. The free update is coming to the game tomorrow, March 8. You can watch the trailer at the top of this post.

The ability to play with five groups of twenty players will only be available for a limited time, so be sure to jump online to check it out before it leaves the game. Breaking each round up into five teams should significantly change how people play, especially if large groups of players are able to organize into 20 person teams with voice chat and squad tactics.

Fortnite: Battle Royale has previously experimented with a 50 vs. 50 mode, which also significantly altered the flow of combat if you were playing with organized groups. And these options are just the beginning.

“We’ve been using multiple data points (including your feedback) to iterate our existing [limited time modes]’s and to build brand new LTM’s,” Epic Games stated in a recent blog post. “We are planning to quickly spin up a dozen or so LTMs, some of these may be more straightforward (e.g. along the lines of Sniper Shootout, Sneaky Silencer etc.). We also use LTMs to test new Shooting Models.”

Some of the upcoming modes that will be coming to the game include:

  • Blitz Mode (shorter matches!)
  • Drop into the first circle
  • Generally less time between circles
  • Team sizes in between 50-versus-50 and squads
  • 50-versus-50 version 2

Epic Games continues to shake up the formula in its most popular game, and it’s fun seeing what gets added to Fortnite in these ongoing limited time modes and continual updates.

The next level of puzzles.
