HERE'S a flashback to 1990 when Littlemoor Library in Weymouth opened.

Pupils of Littlemoor County Primary School designed a colourful mural marking the opening in November 1990.

The 5,000-book facility was opened on November 27, 1990 by the then county councillor Della Jones, chairman of the amenities committee, together with the former borough mayor and mayoress Mr and Mrs Peter Rendall and county librarian Carleton Earl.

The assistant in charge at the time was Pauline Jessett.

The building was due to be constructed in 1989 but was held up until the following year because of problems acquiring the land at Louviers Road.

Up until then, book lovers in the area were served by a mobile library which visited once a fortnight.

Within the first four months of opening, the library was issuing 63 items an hour to around 2,000 borrowers.
