CFTC commitment of traders highlights for the week ending January 2, 2018

  • EUR long 128K vs 92K last week. Longs increased by 36K
  • GBP long 16K vs 13K long last week. Longs increased by 3K.
  • JPY short 122K vs 116K short last week. Shorts increased by 6K
  • CHF short 16K vs 14K short last week. Shorts increased by 2K
  • CAD long 15K vs 17K long last week. Longs decreased by 2K.
  • AUD short 20k vs 14K short last week. Shorts increased by 6K
  • NZD short 17K vs 18K short last week. Shorts decreased by 1K

Highlights:

  • EUR longs jumped by 36K to long 128K. That is the highest long position on record (the prior highest position was 120K). The EURUSD traded near the 2017 highs on Monday, Thursday and again today, but backed off. Nevertheless, the longs are winning.
  • The JPY shorts remain high at 122K (shorts increased up 6K). On Tuesday this week the price stalled just ahead of the 100 day MA (JPY was at the peak). Since then, JPY has weakened by about 110 pips.
