Mariah Carey makes it through New Year's Eve set unscathed (and gets her tea)

Mariah Carey's 2018 got off to a much better start than her 2017 did.

Last year, the pop icon made headlines for all the wrong reasons after a botched performance on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest, when technical difficulties led the diva to exit the stage in frustration and disgust.

Things went much more smoothly Sunday night when she sang her hits Vision of Love and Hero in Times Square in New York, where revelers greeted 2018 in miserably cold weather.

"They told me I would get hot tea ... Oh, it's a disaster!" Carey joked as she looked around for the promised cup to no avail, seemingly referencing 2017's show, where she struggled to hit high notes, blaming her problems on a malfunctioning earpiece and ABC.

"All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," she told Entertainment Weekly last year. "I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time."

During the dispute, the show's producers issued a statement saying any suggestion they would "intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd."

But all was forgotten this time around: "I'm feeling a lot better than last year, when I had to get my own police escort," Carey told Seacrest after he congratulated her on the broadcast.

"Spectacular performance by @mariahcarey,"  the show's Twitter account trumpeted.

Oh, and she did finally get that tea.
