Sarah Hyland has faced criticism for her participation in a social media video series during the Golden Globes that many felt was contrary to the evening's overall message. In a night that featured acts of standing up against gender inequality and sexual misconduct, people on social media have expressed their dismay with Sarah's choice of action in the clip.

During the Golden Globes, Sarah participated in a video series for InStyle's Instagram that featured celebrities taking a ride in an elevator and striking poses. As the first in the series, Sarah's video, which was also posted to her Instagram, featured her holding a bottle and seemingly acting inebriated while falling into the arms of an elevator bellhop.

The video has since received numerous comments, with users pointing out the nature of the video is "counterintuitive" to the Time's Up movement. One user responded saying, "Wow I’m shocked this is still up given the whole times up movement. Doesn’t look good," and another pointed out that the video is "not sending a strong message." It's since been called "repulsive" and "perhaps not the greatest clip to show for timesupnow." Some also noted that the nature of Sarah acting inebriated and falling into the arms of a bellhop perpetuates rape culture and the caption of "When you drink alone. Drink alone w/ #JohntheBellHop" goes against the idea of someone in that state being able to consent to any actions that would occur around them.
