Introduction
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (www.snv.org) is an international development organisation established in the Netherlands in 1965. SNV is at the forefront of supporting market based solutions for inclusive and sustainable economic development empowering local entrepreneurs and communities to break the cycle of poverty. We are present on the ground in 30 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and we implement our strategy through projects in three sectors: Agriculture, Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH). SNV in Ethiopia is implementing projects in more than 400 woredas. Globally, SNV’s workforce comprises of more than 1,500 advisors who come from a variety of cultural and technical backgrounds, and over 80 per cent of them are nationals of the countries where we work. Another important part of our workforce as part of our localisation strategy is our collaboration with local consultants and Local Capacity Builders (LCBs) through/with whom we do our work as described above.
Call Objective
SNV Ethiopia is making a call to Consultants and Local Capacity Builders (LCBs) in specific areas of expertise to apply to be prequalified to offer consultancy services in those areas of expertise as shown in the advertisement.
Definitions
Local Capacity Builder (LCB): is “A national (Ethiopian) organization that provides a significant volume and quality of non-financial capacity development support to meso and or macro level organizations”. The services of LCB can include a variety of roles and techniques such as training, advice, organisational development, change trajectories, coaching, multi-actor processes, institutional and policy development work, knowledge brokering and learning programmes. An individual can also be considered an LCB.
Consultant: The term consultant includes a wide variety of private entities both individuals and consulting firms that provide specialised services and/or expertise for a specific (predetermined) period. Consultants can be nationals or internationals.
SNV Ethiopia’s main strategy is to support the different sectors, sub-sectors and value chains in the implementation of viable inclusive business (IB) models (www.inclusivebusiness.org ), market based solutions, inclusive business planning, supporting business development service, value chain development, sector technical knowledge, and “Bottom of Pyramid” (BoP) services.
SNV Ethiopia is working in the following program areas and therefore is looking for LCBs who can work with us in these areas at national and county level:
